    Hello all,
I was wondering is this little blossom tree is dead, and I should get rid of it?
Or if not, what I should do to revive it?
I'm not sure what kind of blossom tree it is.
    Thank you very much.

I must admit it doesn't look too good. Have you tried the bark test, that is scraping the bark gently with a fingernail to see if there's any green underneath ?

Thank you AnniD - I haven't done that - I will do it tomorrow and report back.
What an adorable little blackbird on your profile with his freshly hatched set of feathers!

        Thank you @Pink678 , I called him "Scruff" .
It looked for all the world like a little tutu he was wearing, he never lost it, and he was such a character. Extremely intelligent.
I still have what I'm sure is one of his descendants in the garden, a female who is also very intelligent and knows where to come for her suet !

Good luck with the bark test

Even if there's green material underneath, it doesn't necessarily mean it'll thrive.
It doesn't look good to me, and I'm afraid if that was mine, it would be hoiked out.

I don’t really rate the scratch test, it might tell you that the plant is not actually dead, but it won’t tell you whether it will thrive. Looking at your tree, I would get rid.

That's may take on the scratch test too @Punkdoc . It can be misleading.

I agree that the scratch test isn't necessarily 100 % foolproof @Punkdoc , but it's a start. Bit like sending a patient for blood tests.
I have to say it doesn't look good, but you never know. It always surprises me how things that look like they've carked it suddenly decide to give things another try.

                  Scratch test done!
I couldn't even scratch it with my fingernail, it was so hard, so I had to use the side of my secateurs.
It does look dead to me. Time to get rid of it! I hope I can dig it out OK, first time for me doing this.
I noticed I tend to try and keep every little thing in the garden, because it's making an effort, but this is not the way to go! So much better to get rid of things and make room for new stuff.

AnniD, I love that your blackbird kept his tutu his whole life. I like when they have a distinctive feature so we can keep track of them - there used to be one around here with a brown mark on his beak who I would see very often.

Sensible thing to do @Pink678 . Take your time, and you'll get it out. Then refresh the area, and pick something that will suit the site and your conditions.

Thank you fairygirl, it will be a nice little project for me to get it out. Something satisfying about decluttering!
