Good to hear that the RHS are holding other shows in new areas. I used to enjoy visiting Tatton, but I don't think the residents will miss the traffic queues.
I visited the very first of the short lived RHS Chatsworth shows (that's a whole other story !), and I see they are holding a plant fair etc on a much smaller scale in Jume.

Sad for those of us who live near Tatton Park, but I shouldn't complain as I have only ever been once!

You do at least have Bridgewater in easy reaching distance tho! Join the RHS, if you haven't already, and go as often as you like for free. Good monthly magazine too.

Think yourselves lucky. I live in Gloucester and there are no RHS gardens anywhere near us, and the Malvern Spring Festival has priced itself out of reach!

I'm going to Bridgewater on Tuesday with my cousins if the weather is ok.

In 2016 I took OH to the Chelsea Flower Show. ABout £60 each for the tickets but all day so decent value. Went again last year and the tickets had jumped to £100!! Decided I'd probably never go again, given the additional costs of getting there - hotel on the way, ferry, M25, 20mph from way outside the centre, ULE zones...............

Edited to add @KT53 there'll be an RHS show at Badminton in 2026.

You have RHS partner gardens @KT53! Hidcote, Batsford Arboretum, Painswick Rococo Gardens are all free entry for RHS members.

Thanks for that. I'm a National Trust member for Hidcote is free for us. I'm really referring to the major RHS gardens.

I am an RHS member and can't get to any of their gardens without a major expedition @KT53. I'd love to see Bridgewater and visit Harlow Carr again.

I'm lucky in that RHS Rosemoor, the Eden Project and a load of excellent gardens are within driving distance of me.
I used to go to Chelsea quite often in the 80 and 90's as I lived in Essex at the time; initially on non-member days (cheaper), then on member days until it became too crowded.

I think it's a good idea that RHS are starting to use different venues although the entry fees are still far too high for lots of people plus they need to consider that lots of people rely on public transport. Luckily I can drive but not everyone can or has access to cars. When I lived in Glos, the Malvern show had discounts in local newspapers otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it and tbh there are so many trade stands. I was a member as loved the magazines but now living in Cornwall there are few partners and even Rosemoor is a 2hr drive away and not accessible by public transport. I have now persuaded my DD to join as she's in Surrey so every time I visit she gets me in as +1 to Wisley. At least Wisley are trying to incorporate transport from Woking Station. Personally I feel RHS need to take into account these issues.

Like the National Trust the RHS should give people discounts for arriving on bike or public transport. At least Bridgewater is also like Wisley promoting public transport but then the garden will probably look good enough in about two decades. Currently just very flat in the walled section and will be interesting when they develop more around the lake and the old glasshouse mount. Really wish they'd do something funky with the wartime shelter they have hidden in the woods... perfect for some low light houseplants

We used to live near NHS Bridgewater but never managed to visit before we moved to Wales. There's a couple of coach trips heading that way soon though ..:yahoo:
