Nothing bigger than about 10mm is fine. Ordinary pea gravel is fine, if you don't want to spend more money on horticultural grit which is finer. Watering is vital. Pots are not the same as a plant in the ground.

Many Group 1s are still flowering. If you have a pic, that will help with further advice. They really only need pruning if outgrowing their space.

The size of the pots looks fine, they can stay in them for a couple of weeks until ready to plant out. I'd give them a weak liquid feed once a week to give them a boost though, any general fertiliser would do.

Oh I forgot to say, they're in a brand new flower bed that was previously just grass- we flipped and covered the turf for 6-7 months before planting anything, so it seemed like really good soil when they went in...
