I grow all my roses in big pots and they are all doing well. A bit of extra care is needed but good soil and plenty of food and water and they are happy and beautiful.

Yes, perlite is what I use too for cuttings. For cuttings you can use a 50/50 mix of compost and perlite which is what I do. You can even use just perlite for cuttings.

Is this a new problem? Do you have a female dog? If yes, it could be where she pees. The only way to combat this is to give her an area in the garden to use as a toilet area, or put down a bucket of water wherever she pees. The problem seems to get worse as the dog ages. (The voice of experience)
