    Thanks the bark is only there as a mulch to stop water loss that has happened when it has been very hot . Its not part of the soil mix. but i will remove the ties

    That's a very good suggestion regarding the soil @Plantminded My idea of a small tree might have been too optimistic, looking at the photos again, as it does seem that the border is quite narrow.

    I’ve done so little today. After our marathon effort yesterday, I had planned to do stuff in the house and watch the promised rain falling. No rain, and nothing productive done indoors either....
