The new thread for 2017
Just completed my order for potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, flowers etc etc from Kings Seeds via the National Allotments Society - saved £13.
They didn't have any heat treated onion sets so I'm about to order them from Suttons.
The year our village's horticultural/allotment society's order was delivered mid-week, and was left in a non-frost free shed in sub-zero temperatures until the weekend causing the whole lot to be ruined was the end of seed potato orders here.
A problem for me with any potato order is that you don't know until it turns up if they're going to be the size of conkers or apples, so I only buy if what's in the net appears OK size, or choose my own where sold loose.
I've been down to the plot half a dozen times since Christmas, burnt some rubbish (pea sticks etc) and collected up most of the winter leaf fall to compost.
Just come back up from the plot now, one of my friends down there (Malcolm) is a tree surgeon so he has been pruning the trees at the back of my plot and over the weekend I'll clean that up and get the logs barrowed down to his plot, he stores them for his log burner.
Tomorrow, Billy and I are driving up to JBA in Annan to buy seed potatoes for a few of us on the allotment.
I'm not bothering to grow onions this year, banana shallots from seed again for me, I've had such great success with them over the last few years.
I have Chard, Mooli, Pak Choi and a few lettuce growing in the tunnel to keep us going for a while.
