I have an Erica arborea Alpina, that is 6'tall and 5'wide. It would be bigger, but I trim off all the new growth (approx 15" worth) in late spring.

Leaves on beds?
I would clear the lawn but leave them on the beds, you could always dig them in a bit to help them on there way leaves are very good for the soil.
