      They could be polystyrene beans from a bean bag if you have one stored up there. Have you checked for mouse droppings?

      No bean bag up there Sheal. I am pretty certain that its insulation (external wall). I will email the Council and see if they know what might be occuring. I hear scratching on the ceiling, and sometimes it sounds like a scratching/crunching in the walls (internal.....plasterboard).
      I was on the sofa the other night, and it still woke me up about 3.30am :sad:.
      I think I will set up my cctv in the loft, and run the power cable for the light through to a socket in the bedroom. See if I can catch the little rotter.

          Caught a total of 11. The first 8 in fairly rapid succession, then the last 3 a couple of days later. Nothing now for at least a couple of weeks.

            Small mice can make very loud scratchings (and rats can sound like you've got rabbits in there), but it could be a rat. Kill them before they start chewing electric cables.

            And that is blown bead cavity wall insulation and not mouse eggs.

              Check your air vents on the outside wall at ground level, there may be a holes in them in which they can get in and go up inside the walls, i had the same problem, mouses go in though the air bricks then up to the loft

                  A quick update. I spoke to my insurance company yesterday (can you believe for nearly 1 hour :ouch1:). They said I am not covered for damage or the cost of pest control, but they did say they will give me 2-3 weeks to sort it, otherwise I will have to call out the experts.
                  I heard it/them again the other day :sad:.
                  I have now got cctv in the loft, and 2 mouse traps, along with 2 trays of poison. I can also switch the loft light on now from my bedroom :) without having to lift the hatch and pull down the ladder. That was a job that I have been meaning to sort out for years!
                  @IceColdRum , I am pretty certain it's not Squizzles.
                  The insurance company did say that I was covered for rat/mouse arson, in case they chomp on a cable.
