Neither of you need to apologise! :nonofinger: I'm just as astonished to have heard it at this time of year too.

Still now @Jiffy has admitted it was him playing a trick on me ... :th scifD36: ... he'd better watch out :heehee:
I didn't know about cuckoo whistles  I suppose that it may have been :dunno: but as I've never heard a real one before, I probably wouldn't know the difference  :heehee:

Starlings are very good mimics of other birds but I do agree February is a little early for Cuckoos as they need their hosts to be nesting and producing eggs so that they can nip in and lay their own eggs and most birds won't produce chicks until they know that their food source is in abundance so there is no saying what your sound was "M"

Lovely shots @strongylodon but my goodness those birds are ugly, they remind me of vultures.

They were right, it is commonly known as the White Throated Kingfisher.

Never seen a Merlin long enough to get a pic! Very distant and cropped.

Just popped out into the kitchen and happened to look out of the kitchen window to see what birds were out there feeding and was surprised to see a Greenfinch feeding on the lawn.I grabbed my camera and got a couple of photos before the Collared Doves frightened it away.

I got quiet excited as this Greenfinch is the first one I have seen in the garden since moving to this house. The last one I saw was fifteen years ago in the garden of our old house.I have seen them in the hedgerows over at the lottie and when we have been out and about but like the Song Thrush we used to have as regular feeders in the garden, they are getting quiet rare now:sad:

Same here, I know where to see Greenfinches but I've not had one in the garden for three years or Song Thrush for two. I know @shiney has them.
There are small flocks of Redwings around (30+) but no Fieldfares.

Strongly,we actually had a Song Thrush in one of our borders briefly in the spring for a couple of minutes before it flew off and have seen them twice in the fifteen years we have lived here.I wish they would come on a regular bases as we have a snail problem in our garden and the ones we had at our old house did a good job of getting rid of them.We used to have one sit on our television Aries and sing its heart out every night throughout the summer.Something I miss:sad:

Mind you we have had Reed Buntings,Blackcaps,Long Tailed Tits,Bullfinches,Redwings,Fieldfares,Waxwing,Magpie,Crow plus Red Kites flying low over the garden so it isn't all doom and gloom:snorky:
