Hi All. A bit late in getting 1st & 2nd seed pots for chitting so going Monday to purchase them.
Last year we had Winston & Arran Pilot for 1st. Charlotte & Maris Piper for 2nd,all will be for salads.
Just looking on web and some sites have say Charlottes for 1st and some have Charlottes as 2nd ,yet other sites have Charlotte for 1st & 2nd on web page?? This is the same for other varieties as well
Apart from the fact 2nd`s take longer to grow than 1st`s is there any real difference between 1st & 2nd pots. I can only presume rightly or wrongly that if say Charlotte is planted as a 1st and harvested in the required time they will be a lot smaller than if grown as 2nd`s??
Basically we only like to grow the small pots that go well with salads. Might try something different this year. One old boy told me he only grows Foremost so may give them a go if in stock.
    Thanks

It's timing really trogue, Charlotte planted as Firsts will take longer to get going and even longer to mature. Wilkinsons are seling Rocket, my favourite first early.

Thanks for your feedback. When I got home from buying the 1st & 2nd potatoes I realised I had made a mistake on the 2nd earlies. :wallbanging:
I should of purchased Maris Peer but instead purchased Maris Piper which are good for roasting not salads!!! Looks like I got to make another trip again.

I did a similar thing last year after hours of research and making lists, went to the garden centre and bought the wrong variety, got a second early (Charlotte) instead of a main crop. It still produced lots of good spuds though :)
