while i was away from GC i am sorry to report that we lost two of our cats both of which died on the road outside our home, Bilbo was a fairly new addition to our family he was a stray in a very poor state when he turned up, he took a lot of coaxing but after a few weeks we feed him up and gained his trust, we got him to the vet and he settle in well, one day as i was coming home from work i saw him in the middle of the road, he had been gone a while.

Puss cat we had for 5 years she just turned up one day and never left, she was pretty much a house cat and we were shocked that she had even gone out the front as she was either in the house and on the back window sill, some one knocked our door one evening and asked if we knew the cat as she was just outside our house, when i picked her up she was still with us but when i took her in to the house she died in my arms, i sobbed like a baby i will find pics and upload them later

this was Bilbo once we has nursed him back to health about 2 months before he passed away bilbo.jpg

and this was our Puss cat she loved to sleep on radiators puss.jpg puss rad.jpg

Big hugs from me Kaz. My darling Calvos disappeared nearly 8 months ago and he had never left the house in the country and then my river cat died in early December and I am still devastated.

We have just today said we would take a young cat on from Lisbon looking for a home (we may have to meet midway to collect it) that has been shot 20 times, one in the eye which has blinded her and we are waiting to hear if we can have her. A lot of people will not go for injured animals. Beija who died at the river only had one eye and no voice.

They call this one Lucky but if we get her we may well change her name.

1448368109148.jpg My beloved dog and friend, Fred is having to go on his last long journey today at 2.00pm.
Currently he is sat on my lap, looking very sorry for himself.
Words cannot tell of how wretched I feel, I asked God to take him
in his sleep so the I would not have to make this decision. I gave a lovely big
                    lunch, his favourite.
He has given us unconditional love and so much joy and laughter over the past 15 years.

I remember the day this little scuffy mess of a dog from the rescue centre (when
we lived in Cyprus ) came home with us, and changed our lives. He was scarred
from his previous life, and over the years he changed into a lovely gentle companion.
God bless you Fred, and thanks for everything xxxxxx

My thoughts are with you Lili. I had to make the same decision a month ago with my beloved Magic Sam (Boo) who was with us for 20 years. I too hoped he would go in his sleep but in a way I am pleased he went on my lap in the sunshine in his familiar surroundings (the Vet came to our home on a Sunday morning). Now he is at rest with Skwij, Puschka and Rasputin, past furry family, in our garden.

Fred will be with you always to help you remember the good times. Abraços e beijos to you and Fred enjoy your journey over the Rainbow Bridge. :doggieshmooze:

I'm so sad for you Liliana. I expect all us pet owners know how you will be feeling. At least you are being brave and doing the right thing. Too many pet owners keep their animals "going" for their own sakes rather than thinking of the animal which could be in much pain and distress:grphg:

A sad day in the Trunky household. Today we said goodbye to our friend of 14 years, 'Indy'.

Her health was failing and so this morning we made the decision to take her to the vets to relieve her from her suffering.

She was never really a 'people' cat, preferring her own company rather than that of humans generally. She had an independent, slightly aloof nature and, of course, we loved her for it.

If you were lucky, you would be allowed the occasional stroke before she wandered off into the garden, to sit outside patiently waiting until you left the house, so she could return to reclaim her rightful place indoors.

The only person she ever really warmed to was Mrs Trunky, who was allowed the privilege of having Indy sit on her lap when it suited her. Everyone else, myself included, was treated with disdain. She would tolerate my presence in the house when, and if, it suited her. The first sound I would hear as I came downstairs every morning would be Indy disappearing through the cat flap just as I opened the kitchen door.

And yet, when the time came to take her to the vets this morning, Mrs Trunky could not bear to do it, and so it fell to me to hold her and stroke her as she left us.

I'm going to miss the sound of that cat flap in the mornings.
