Going to move all of the sprouted leeks and replant the blocks that didn't germinate. Make a herd of new soil blocks to start more veggie seeds. :)

Toying with the idea of sowing my gazania and zinnia pots... perhaps too early? I don't plan on hanging them outside until May and won't be able to move them to the greenhouse until 4th or so (opening day for greenhouse). Forgot how long these take to germinate...

Finally got outdoors:) dug over the plot and took out the old wooden surrounding as it rotted to bits. Bonfire next week...

Sown some annuals, moved some fruit bushes and cut the meadow. I mean lawn...

Started more leek seeds and other veggies in soil blocks. Haven't tried doing anything with the outside gardens as I cannot locate my ice pick.... :)

Just a bit of pottering about this afternoon, doing a few odd jobs.

Took out a tatty clump of Crocosmia (don't like them anyway) and replaced it with a variegated Cistus from Shiney's open day last year. :dbgrtmb:

Snipped off some honeysuckle and ivy which is starting to climb the chicken wire around the hen's run.

In the greenhouse, potted up a few more winter salad leaf plants and watered a few things.

Harvested a cauliflower and picked the first of the sprouting broccoli for our evening meal.

Sat in the summer house with a cuppa and read the Sunday paper. :coffee:

Planted 3 Roses, 2 Bleeding Heart and an Iris. Pulled up a few weeds out of the Rose garden. Noticed the Tulip species ( Greigii and Kaufmanniana ) and smaller Allium species are coming up, Hyacinths, Narcissi and Crocus are all in bud. No sign of any Anemone Blanda yet though and I thought these were early flowering, not grown them before though so not sure.

Only just come across this as we've been away. We're just about to take ours down to 12"-18" high. It's very well established and we hard prune every year and it flowers very well every year. It grows to at least 8'-10' each year. I don't know how younger plants take to hard pruning.

Not today, but at the weekend: pruned apple tree, cut back and shredded some stuff, lifted and divided a clump of geraniums and one of rudbeckia Cherry Brandy, put a layer of cardboard on the new veg bed which was grass and put the contents of the 'done' compost bin on top of it.

Swept some of last night's snow off of the lighter cold frames as they can't take much weight. Shovelled a little path to the two greenhouses and bird feeder. "snow dig"

Will be starting my pansy, nicotiana and gazania seeds today. Yes, cover gazanias as they need the dark to germinate. I directly start these up in hanging pots and I put a round of metal cloth on the top of the soil so the seedlings grow up through the 1/2" openings and stop the squirrels from trying to use the pots as their nut pantry.

Not an awful lot really but a wander round and I can see lots of little bits of growth on the clematis  The choisya is showing signs of budding up too.

I'm not sure that this counts as "in the garden" but I've been preparing some of the garden machinery for use when I can eventually get in there to do something proper. At this time of year, I get withdrawal symptoms! :)
