I'm surprised you had the patience and inclination to comment on all the pictures @Apple Blossom, you've done a better than the judges! I presume the photographers would have been sent away and told to try harder next time, having gained red marks against their work. :snorky:

Well I thought I may have done the first group 2015 some kind of injustice :heehee: So thought I'd give 2014 a little bit more time.... but then I have done a 12 hour shift at work today... maybe my eyes are a little tired and I need to go to Spec Savers :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

We shouldn't be judgemental though as it does say armature's and I dare say that some that I post are as bad :thud:

Interesting to see what real judges pick though!!

I like the way he leads his landscape photos in...

Oh! He lives in Colchester. I moved to the island from there. :)

He is a very good photographer particularly his wildlife and landscapes but I did find the over enhancement of many of his photo's tedious. Many of which I thought looked unreal and the portraits quite ugly.

I have always preferred photo's to stand on their own merit and if the photographer has to adjust them it should be minimal. I don't like the distortion that is created, in my eyes it's not natural. When I look through a lens I want what I see to be as close to the scene as possible when I press the button.

@wiseowl.... well this one is proving to be more difficult... no wonder my photo got put in the shredder :heehee:

And we can only choose one....... I'm going to come back to you on this one, and the theme was 'Colours of the Countryside'!

I'm looking through their 'Flickr' Photo's at the moment :snorky:

One... for me has stood out... but having looked up the photographer... Rule 6 does not apply then?

          6. Entrants must not be professional photographers. For the purposes of this competition, a professional photographer will be considered to be someone who makes more than half their annual income from the sale of their photographs.

I was disappointed in the entries but that could be down to the judges choices. I felt that most were a case of 'been there, done that' although the quality of photography is good overall. I don't think the competition title 'Colours of the Countryside' was thought on much before the pictures were chosen. The Oystercatcher shot for example has very little colour - and is the beach/sea considered to be countryside?

The only one's that caught my eye were January, May and July.

January......such a well focused picture and the title is so apt.

I had to pick May because I'm biased, as Oystercatchers are my favourite sea birds. :) I was disappointed with the focusing though.

Finally July......I suspect there has been adjustment to this photo, that said, I like the focusing as it creates a portrait of the Hare within the shot and gives it a little quirkiness. For me this one would have been awarded first place. :)

I would have loved to have gone through the 3000 photo's and whittled them down to the final places.

Not a bad idea @wiseowl but I haven't got a television so wouldn't be able to keep up with countryfile. I don't watch programmes on my computer either. I think you should enter and perhaps we could convince Apple Blossom too. :)

I like your September choice, why did choose it?

Good evening @Sheal it just jumped right out at me,The subject matter almost an action shot, the way that the background is just very slightly out of focus from the main subjects ,the colours seem so comfortable with each other, the time and patience to get such a shot, the little creatures have been placed in the right position for this photo.the leaves at the top of the image just creeping in to the photo, the reflection in the still water of the main subjects, the way the light perfectly balances the image up vertically, almost as if a flash has been used:smile:

                        Good Afternoon @wiseowl and @Sheal.

Sorry for the late reply been busy working extra hours so that I can take this week to be with Dad.

I think the one's that stand out for me are July and September.

July....I really like the way the hare has been caught in this photo, sharp, ears up, alert and looking straight into the camera lens. A moment later and he will have fled.

September.... Don't they just look cosy together. Love the crispness of the photo.. the lime green of the leaves at the front of the photo blend well with the darker leaves behind giving the photo depth.

For me.... It has to be

                          Hi all,

I have recently been getting into photography and recently got a few 10x macro lenses.
In a rush I took this photo to see how detailed it could be of a begonia flower.
A question also, I have a nikon D3200, the mini tripod I have is crap and can hardly hold up the weight of the camera, can anyone recommend a good solid mini tripod where the camera wont tilt under its own weight?

I think @wiseowl or perhaps @ARMANDII can answer this for you Carl as I don't have a mini tripod.
