Sorry about the photo in the last post, looked good here and I could read..lol

I've blown it up a little here so those with squinty eyes can see the detail better. It looks a lot, but all have just one or two seeds in and germination is not guaranteed. I'll sow most if not all of the ones in the first photo over two sowings as I will need 6 plants plus to plant out, cutting that down later to just 3 to actually grow on.

      Blimey Steve!

How will you know which ones to keep?

They will all be labelled so I know where they have come from, but as for choosing which to keep, that's easy..the strongest survive, the weak take a one way trip to the compost heap.

It's my belief that the large numbers on the packets show the potential of what the seed can do, feeding and conditions affect growth and overall size at the end. Having large pedigree seeds does not mean you will grow a whopper, just that its possible if you give the plant what it needs and wants.

I don't grow pumpkins but one of my friends does. He grows his on top of a 5ft high compost heap. He says that apart from having some good compost for its roots it also generates heat all the time and the pumpkins love it.

Apparently the roots avoid going too deep into the compost but run closer to the edges so that they don't get burnt.

Ah I see what you won now, you have 2009 progeny so 2009 x xxxx, mine are sibs direct 2009 copies/clones so 2009 x 2009.

Incidentally I like the look of your biggest and smallest Wallace seeds, both having been crossed with the 1985 miller which as you know is/was a very popular seed.

Wow.lot of money for a seed, I would want 4 wheels and air con for that money..lol

I got my seeds by joining EGVGA (European Giant Vegetable Growers Association) http://www.egvga.eu/

All the seeds are donated by members and early in the year a seed package is sent to all members, it's lucky dip what you get.

My 2 x Wallace 2009 sibs, came free from the grower who grew them direct from the Wallace 2009 seed.

I reached out a little this year as I feel I have a good idea of how to grow Pumpkins now, excellent genetics (and good weather) are the missing part of the puzzle.

I could not pay £100 for a seed, let alone over one thousand!
