Have a double something which just might take the edge of your GRRRR! If you have enough doubles then you might forget what your GRRRR is about at least for this evening. Tomorrow you'll have the mother and father of a hangover and be feeling so bad you won't have time to think about what's really upsetting you:). Obviously it's only hearsay that this approach works as I hardly ever imbibe:snorky:.

I'm already sacrificing myself on some market research for @HarryS on another matter, so, being the kind soul that I am, I am prepared to put your "hearsay" to the test and see if the theory holds up ... I can see this may be a longer night than I had originally planned ... ...

            ... line 'em up! :paladin:

Well I got so cross tonight at work! Why people have to be so ruddy rude is beyond me! Two of the lorry drives arrived back one English (miserable, grumpy old git!) but I liked him all the same! Polish driver arrives back (he's really polite, smiles & works really hard). Anyway English twit gives him loads of racist verbal to the point that I had to ask the English grumpy git to stop & apologise! He was really surprised by my reaction!
Yes we all have our own opinions but they don't have to be shared. :gaah:.
Manners are free, respect is free & where possible both should be applied!

Agree @Beckie76, I was brought up on the saying "A please and a thank you costs nothing". I too was livid today. Live in the countryside surrounded by fields BUT it's very easy to see I have a garden that is tended. I was out lifting Snowdrops which had been bought from me when the council appeared (I nearly died from shock:)) with a lorry filled with some road metal to fill in potholes caused by the torrential rain recently.
Living on a single track road the council lorry blocked the road. Car appears and has to stop as can't get passed the lorry. Man get's out of car with dog. He wanders over to me and says something about things beginning to "improve"?, weather, road, the country's finances? so I asked him what he was referring to. He replied that he was referring to the weather. In the meantime I noticed his dog had cra..ed on our grass next to the road (photo shows grass near the road which I don't think anybody could mistake for farmland? So nice to discover dog poo while strimming!) and it them proceeded to march through 1000s of my Aconites and Snowdrops IN my garden. I asked the man reasonably politely if he'd mind stopping his dog from trampling over my garden. He called the dog and it duly came back to him and they walked back towards his car. The "Brave" man then turns round and yells at me "and by the way I do f...ing mind" WELL I gave it back to him in spades. I wish I'd said to him "get you f...ing dog off my f...ing garden" which is what some folk around here would have said!. I was so tempted to pick up the dogs doings and throw it at him but thought better of it!
Instead, after giving him back an earful, I walked past his car and spoke to the guys filling in the potholes and asked them to take as long as possible. They liked this idea and leaning on shovels ensued". The rude bu..er in the car got the message and eventually had to reverse back to my driveway turn round and go back the way he'd come. Don't get me wrong I love dogs and have owned a couple over the years, it wasn't the dog but it's owner I had the problem with. He wasn't even brave enough to say what he did to my face. This all occurred during the most beautiful winter's day, with the sun splitting the heavens. Some people just seem to enjoy being foul. Sorry if this goes on a bit but I was really quite shocked at what happened and certainly wasn't expecting to have an up and a downer with someone I've never seen before and hope I don't see again. driveway 003.JPG

My moan is not a stressful moan but, as you know, I do get peeved about the misuse of our language. I, generally, don't care how individuals use the language but do get annoyed when the media, teachers and other similar people misuse it.

So I never have a go at anyone on here - except students asking us for help in their questionnaires. I think that @"M" has shown similar annoyance at some of the papers that the students have put together. :heehee:

My peeve, this time, is with the media and with reportage of the news. I have noticed, over recent months, that they use the word 'killed' for most (not all) situations where someone has died.

There are a number of fine points to the difference between 'killed' and 'died' and I shan't put them here. I'm having this moan to draw your attention to it and see whether you recognise the incorrect use when it occurs in future.

A simple example that I heard on the news at 5 a.m. this morning was where they reported that a driver had driven his car off the road and was killed in the accident. I know it's not important but it still grates on me! He wasn't killed (unless we later find that his car was sabotaged) but he 'died' in the accident.

Killing is a deliberate act! Of course, if it was suicide he would have killed himself, but until that is established he died from his injuries (or, maybe, died from a heart attack).

I think that some reporters don't know the difference (they should!) and others do it to give the report more impact.

Good morning @shiney especially when when used out of context "my feet are killing me"

You can have people who were killed by the floods, (an external force) who died in the floods (drowned) , or who lost their lives in the floods:dunno:

Those are all correct but the first one is not used so much as the others fit the situation better. It depends on the exact situation and how sensationalist the author is.

Then you get the awkward one about being killed by a bolt of lightning! :noidea: Which is almost certainly the term that would be used.
