One thing that those who want out keep very quiet about is the rebate that the UK has enjoyed since the mid eighties which Thatch negotiated when we were in a hole and one of the most skint nations in the EU. This rebate continues to this day even though we are no longer in a hole and adds up to approx one third of the previous years contribution and is on top of all the other payments that the UK receives.

It's the other way round. The out campaigners rely on fear. You demonstrate that in your own post, by telling us we'll be dragged down if we don't leave. I do agree that both sides sometimes use doom and gloom tactics, but it's not fair to say that only the 'in' campaigners do. But both are right. How can they not be? If we stay in, we keep all the things we dislike about the EU.If we leave, we effectively put the likes of David Cameron in absolute control of our country. I actually find the latter quite alarming.
I cant remember any car of that era, no matter who made it, that didn't rust away after a few years, especially if you were stupid enough to get it wet. Good old Maggie At least we can vote DC out at some point if we want to, if we stay in, who we vote for in the future will be unimportant. The megalomaniacs running the EU will make sure of that.
I heard DC on the radio earlier saying that we should stay in the EU because that gives us our good employment rights. Surely if we left the EU then DC could still give us the same rights in law. By saying it's the EU that gives us those rights and not the British government, is he suggesting that the British government would scrap those rights if the EU was out of the way?
I think his main thrust, clueless, has been to say "we're safer together[in the EU]" rather than anything to do with UK employment rights. So I think what he was referring to was that if we left the EU the EU EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS would not cover us as they do while we're a member of the EU.
I get that, but surely the elected boss of the nation shouldn't be giving credit to the EU in such a way as to say he wouldn't do it. Surely he could have said "the EU did this for us, if you choose to leave then I'll endeavour to mirror those perks in our laws, but I'd rather let the eu do it, but I'll do it for you if you insist".
Actually, I think you'll find the UK legislated employment rights already mirror's the EU's and, in fact, go further because UK Political Parties and Unions pushed for them to be enforced by EU Legislation, so it's not something the EU has done for us.....but what it can't do, if we leave the EU, is to guarantee those same laws being relevant to the UK population should they wish to work abroad. So those same rights already apply in the UK and, as I said, UK legislation actually goes further within the UK, but not in the EU.
DC's statement is just a good example of a non-statement that's coming at us from all directions. In secret (not so secret ) our politicians all belong to the same party - the DPP. No, not the Department of Public Prosecution but the Dissembling and Prevarication Party.
We can still trade with Europe via the WTO GPA and we will still be in NATO to provide our security. Making our borders more secure stops the evil people simply walking in. Security is a non argument IMHO - its got to be out.
