I saw this last night, who would have thought of dahlias and ferns? but a great combination and gardening result. You came across as such a nice couple too @JackJJW , so hope you are enjoying the little haven you have worked so hard for.

Oh, haha! Was it on the laptop in the cafe?! Brilliant if it was! :D Everything was filmed so long ago I can't remember what I did or didn't do now!

Chris' banana didn't grow very much last year... ;) but it's still alive!

We were laughing the whole way through - it was very funny! I loved it when Monty showed us how to pot on and Chris was so excited about it! haha He is definitely more interested in gardening now, although he's happy to let me do the actual gardening.

We didn't use daggings in the end. I don't think they sell them here in London!

Thanks GG. I'm not even really sure where the combo of Dahlias and ferns came from now, but it's kinda worked out in the end :D

It's funny to think how the garden has changed since I first posted on here two years ago asking about plants for shady areas... that shady area now has the fern wall in!

I have a photo gallery on here of some photos of the plants in more close up: http://www.jackwallington.com/big-dreams-small-spaces-photo-gallery/ - I will add some of these to the Salvia and Dahlia threads :)

I'm afraid not, well, I was planning on growing some purple french beans but they didn't work because there was actually lots of shade during the main bit of building work. I did grow some in our nearby community garden however.

That would be interesting. My grandparents lived in London and had a very wide 250 foot long garden with two 20 x 10 feet greenhouses, but that was down to my Father and Uncle (one each).

Again, I'm a bit spoilt for need of space as Mrs Scrungee's parents held the tenancy of a local farm.

Yup! :snorky: At 4.37 into the programme :heehee: Not that I was paying much attention of course

Don't worry about the daggings ... think I could rustle some up for you for free around here; shall I send you some? :roflol:

:phew: Glad Chris' banana is still alive - imagine he would be quite traumatised if anything happened to it; he was just so excited with it!

Has he had generated any commissions for his rain gauge yet?

Oh brilliant, that's better than I realised then!

No commissions yet, but he has been stopped in the street a couple of times already!

I was looking through some old threads in order to post them up here but all the photos on them have gone!

One of our original members, Banana Man, had a garden full of ferns and banana trees. He'd have been able to give you some hints. :noidea:

Yes, he's quite advanced a writer considering he's a cat but wonders never cease!

Will do. I will be there this year - thank you. I'll submit my request for celebrity snacks and drinks nearer the time :heehee: I can sign Dahlia leaves.

Ooh, that would have been interesting. I have to admit, I hadn't really thought about how tropical plants and Dahlias would combine with ferns but actually it works really well because ferns can look quite tropical themselves.

Brilliant job, well done to you both! Really like the living wall, it bushed out lovely and your dad looked pleased with his handy work and so he should! :) I'm a big fan of dahlias, only started growing them 2 years ago myself, find them very easy. Had to laugh when your partner said about worrying over you buying flowers, plants and ferns! My partner worries about me too! All the best with renovation! Who wants to sit inside when you havd a lovely green space like that! Fab :blue thumb:

Just watched it this afternoon, you've done amazing, it's beautiful and your living wall is fantastic :)

Well done and keep it up :)

PS.... Have you tried any of the Pelargoniums yet ?
