Out for a walk in the local park this morning, there was plenty of bird life to be found in the woodland areas. One I was surprised to see was a Woodlark rummaging around in the leaf litter, couldn't get a photo, but lovely to see it.

It was a surprise to see it in an urban park, in February, as according to the RSPB website they're mainly a summer migrant in this area which prefers open heathland. Any thoughts @strongylodon?

@strongylodon there was no birds around for obvious reasons and I don't know how long it was sitting there for as I spotted it after the sun had come up so it could have been there all night as I assume they roost somewhere?

Forgot to say I think this bird was a little too early for my birds as they seem to have a lie in some days and it can be after 9am before they flock to feed and yet other mornings they are arriving as it is getting light although my little Robin has been singing all through the winter at around 4amish due I think to us having a lamppost outside our house so it lights up everywhere :snorky:

Can you tell me please if it is a female as I am not a 100% sure as it looks a different colour on my camera photo but according to the RSPB identification website it is a female due to the orange colour round the chest below the beak:smile:

Love your photos of the Grey Wagtail,Goldcrest and Chiffchaff and the Jay:yes:

@Trunky it is possible it is an overwintering one as we had a female Blackcap in our garden a few weeks ago. They reckon that some of the birds of differenet species come here to winter from Europe because our winters are milder than what they get:biggrin:

@Kandy I think it is the male that has the orange colouring and females that are all grey.

@Trunky Woodlarks are mainly heathland and woodland birds and a park is a strange place to see one. They are resident, well they are here, and singing loudly.

Later at Corfe Common. Yellow Hammer.

One of a small flock of twenty Redwings this morning, I think they will be leaving soon.

Spoonbills, only about eight here now compared to sixty in November. The white blobs are two others feeding in the channel.

Fifteen Grey Plovers joined them later. Dozens of Curlew around too.

No @Sheal it's a bridge same as the Canon but only 24x zoom but it can be pushed to 50x with picture size reduction.

I find the EVF on the SX50 quite off putting at times and it's hopeless for anything that moves.

To be honest I found the LCD as bad, I couldn't focus on anything.

I had to go to Swanage this afternoon so I stopped at Norden Sewage works again on the way, more of the same, although the over wintering Chiffchaff posed for me.

                      I know where you mean.....

I fell across it whilst out with Tess. No signs of 'No Dogs Allowed' until after I'd parked the car, got my camera out.... walked some distance and then came to a gate....:yikes: with a sign stating "No Dogs Permitted"

I felt awful.... I'd already walked for about 20mins with Tess, on her lead. I had to sneak back to the car and hopefully was not seen, I was so embarrassed but yes it does seem like a very good place to go.... not sure if would be good on my own though :noidea: There are lots of bird watchers there :lunapic 130165696578242 5:!!!
