Cars!

Having put our car change on hold last year, other half and I are now on the lookout again with thoughts on changing this coming summer. We're in the market for something that's two to three years old and looking at SUV's mainly. We're off to look at the Nissan Juke on Monday so any opinions on this will be welcome.

 

Thanks FC. Hmmm, now you've given me mixed feelings about this although I've heard good and bad reports on it. I'm sitting here with a list of nine SUV's to look at and out of that nine the Qashqai wasn't really on the cards. Other half and I are at the Nissan dealer on Monday so we'll give it the once over.

 

Thanks John. This is not looking good, I don't really want a car I don't like the look of. I know looks should come after mechanics and performance but it has to be pleasing to the eye surely?

 

Sheal I was looking for a SUV last year and went for the Mitsubishi ASX 1.8 Diesel . This is my first diesel and it is a superb car . Not loved by the motoring press but owners all give it 5 stars ! Its a little smaller than the market leader Qashqai and Kuga.

 

Now that sounds interesting Harry, thanks. We hadn't even considered Mitsubishi and it's size would be better for us as we don't need anything big now. That's why we were considering the Juke. We're also going to have a look at the Dacia Stepway, but not so keen on that.

 

No, no, no. Its a Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird. Challengers were made by Dodge, and never used as a base for their version. It was the Charger they used. If that really was a Hemi, it would be one of only 93 ever produced.

The 1969 Dodge versions were rather fast...one was timed at 243mph, just a tiny bit slower than the Bugatti Veyron of today...

 

We own a plymouth 'cuda with a 440-6 which can outrun the hemi on the 1/4 mile. And yes, we can pull the front end off the road... being old technology, there is no comfort built in and you can really feel the g force. Lots of fun

 

Quite true if its a stock 440-6 against a stock 426 Hemi.

 

Sheal there are not so many ASX on the roads , one downside on them now is a 9000 mile service interval which is small . On the Dacia side the Duster is a big seller and low cost SUV .I don't know the Stepway.

 

Don't know anything about the Juke except that I have been a back seat passenger in a friend's and found it very claustraphobic and tiny. I did contemplate charging him for chiropractor fees afterwards.

Just sayin' ....

I'm not fussed at all about looks of cars and go other things, but the Juke always reminds me of a squashed frog. And while I'm here, the Citroen Cactus looks like a cheap piece of luggage. Apologies to anyone who has either of these, all a matter of personal taste afterall


Family member has an older Subaru Forester and loves it, I've been in that many times and it is roomy and flexible and a nice ride. Also have a mate with a Honda CR-V who says its the best thing since sliced bread. Don't know if they are on your list Sheal or if they meet your looks criteria.

I'll get me coat and get back to plants which I know a teensy bit about.

Sorry for any owners , but I do think the Citroen designers had had a weekend on the Absinthe when they did this one . Maybe it's trendy and I am an SOF

This wouldn't be a problem @HarryS assuming we could have an annual service. We use the car very little and my current 8 year old Clio only has 42,000 miles on the clock. My other half has just checked on the mileage for the ASX and it states servicing at 12,500 miles......interesting.

The biggest I've come across so far FC. Sorry, we're looking at the smaller SUV's.

We're looking for something around two to three years old but we don't want or need anything big in length or engine size. The Honda HRV is about as big as we want to go but would prefer something the size of the Ecosport or smaller. Below is the list of what I have including length measurements.

The back will rarely be used by passengers GG. It reminds me of a sports shoe, I like it because it looks different to all the others.

No, my daughter would like to play with that though. She has just bought a Ford Edge in Canada.
