A lot bigger than my Wilcos ones Anthony, but I remain hopeful. I'm sure they've grown by a third in the pots in the last 5 days.

Does yours do mail order Ian, as I've noticed you've ordered F. Excorticata and I can't get one of those.

Wondering if any of our fuchsia experts could recommend one or two that are happiest in deep or deepish shade? I have a couple of spots like this and have tried various ones only to be disappointed by legginess, chronic leaning (etiowotsit whatever it is called, can never remember) and general sulking.

          Thanks
          GG

@Gay Gardener , I planted F. Windchimes in my shadiest basket with red trailing Begonias. The spot gets early morning sun until mid morning only. It is a very early bloomer as well from June to November - Google photo below.
The other one that did well in part shade was F. Cascade with white Begonias photo below

Anthony. So what is that you don't like about Fuchsias? Always so negative! He he! What an impressive list. I'm going to put some effort into growing them this year as I lost the ones from year before last. Learned so much more now so have some hope for this year with both bush and trailing plants. All the best.

                Hi @Gay Gardener

Harry has hit the nail on the head with his reply.......

I think you've earned this Harry :star:

As long as they have around 2 hrs of sun ( either morning or night ), but not full sun there are some that should grow well, and as Harry' s said pale ones and deep coloured red and purple ones are the best. Try to stay away from bright reds/oranges etc.

Hardy ones recommended for shade include......

                Hawkshead
                Grayrigg
                Whiteknights Pearl

Any of the Fuchsia Magellanica species/hybrids would also do well except for the golden leaved ones as they need sun to retain their leaf colour.

I have a spot under a conifer ( at least 20' high ), which has had it's lower branches removed to about 4' in a corner between a 5' fence panel and an 18" high wall which gets sun only till about 11 am where we've got Hawkshead, F. Magellanica Gracilis, F. Magellanica Versicolor ( also known as F. M. Tricolor ) planted out permanently and also a F. Lady Boothby growing up through the tree.

Thanks @HarryS and @Anthony Rogers I shall have a look at a few of the suggestions. I have Hawkshead already in position, they are under fairly large virburnums in my woodlandy part, and they look, well, a bit spindly, as if they are not totally happy. They get dappled sun only. Been there only a year so perhaps they will settle ... I will have a look at the Greyrigg and Whiteknights Pearl as they are the colour I wanted in that area. Do you think they might be a bit more shade tolerant than Hawkshead?

                      thanks

                        Hi Ian,
That looks nice from what I've seen on google ( admittedly not a lot Lol ).
It' s one I've not seen before, but I think it should be hardy as it's a F. xColensoi hybrid.

I've got a F. Perscandens coming which is one of the parents of xColensoi, the other being F. Excorticata.
