In my honest opinion the NHS want's taking back into complete Government control and a good shaking up.
It's like the junior doctors row. They are getting between £27 to £30,000 per annum and are striking for more money.
They are also fighting about the new weekend contracts. They are being asked to work a Saturday or Sunday and take a day off during the week and after 5pm on Saturdays they will be receiving 30% overtime. I personally think their actions are disgusting. I've worked in jobs where weekend working is part of your working week and we didn't get overtime rates at all.

I have in a previous career refused to serve someone in a bar I was managing because they were complaining about having to work on a weekend and then expected the staff to kow-tow to their every need, whilst my staff were just doing their job to the best of their abilities.

They knew what they were signing up for when they joined the profession, if they don't like it they should get out, not strike leaving the general public in danger.

I didn't exactly make these graphs up in my lunch hour pete. This one was a proportional histogram released by the BBC . If you trust absolutely no one , discussion is a tad meaningless.

I think what Pete means, Harry, is that the graphs don't reflect the real situation out there in that the figures are taken from official sources that, perhaps, have their own bias's, agenda, inaccuracies, and not everything in black and white can be taken as read [Pun]etc. I trust the BBC for being mostly open and neutral, but they have sometimes got things not so much as wrong but perhaps not as realistic as they should have been or have quoted figures given to them by sources far from the actual situation who are also giving figures that due to the situation are also out of date..
Perhaps, there is also the flood of accusations, counter accusations, spewing of "facts" and "figures" from the different organisations involved. Plus, there is the fact that the public just do not trust or like Politicians anymore and are cynical to the extreme of anything they say or do................not that I'm inferring that Pete is in any way cynical, or trusts no one, or looks in the mirror and doesn't believe it.:dunno::hate-shocked::heehee:

There are lots of jobs that pay substantially more than that 30k, and offer better terms and benefits, while at the same time not carrying such responsibilities as people's lives.

I agree the nhs should be nationalised, but I don't think the latest generation of doctors are to blame for all its failings.

To get back to the original point, E.U.- Turkey, I always thought a big stumbling block was Turkeys continued occupation, after 1974 invasion, of Northern Cyprus.

Now this is a good example of misdirection whilst be completely accurate.

Firstly, it says 'Asylum Applications'. This doesn't necessarily bear any relationship to actual people allowed to live in the countries.

Secondly, they give it per 100,000 population. So are making the graph look the way they wish. They could just as easily based it on land surface, GDP, average earnings, disposable income are many other bases.

If we take, for example, the three consecutive countries listed together way above us on the graph they are:

                    Luxembourg had 3,900 applications
                    Malta had 1730 applications
                    Liechtenstein had 160 applications

                    We had 40,000 applications!
None of these bear much relationship to how many were accepted

This is the same as I was saying on the other thread - that we don't have sufficient information to make proper judgements.

I am sorry if I caused any upset with my comment above, especially @Beckie76 - my comment was not aimed at you.

You are right, I am sensitive in regards to the whole "Brexit" issue. My father is German, my mother is English, I was born in Germany and therefore hold a German passport. I returned to England 18 years ago because I felt this is where I belong. This means I have been living here for half my life. I am married to a proper Durham lad, I have a British family here. I work full time, pay full taxes and contributions and never ever in my life claimed any kind of benefits.

All I have done "wrong" (or rather my parents) was not being registered British citizen at birth. That's all it takes to make me "one of those foreigners" in the eyes of the government and from what I can gather most of the British public.

And now I have no idea what's going to happen to me. Yes, I admit, the the constant "get the foreigners out" debate makes me a bit sensitive because I am one of them. And where should I go? England is my home..

Like I said I didn't want to cause any upset, but I hope you now understand from my point of view why I am probably a bit ubersensitive.

I hope you will accept my apology.. [IMG]

Well, yes. I am saying that Sweden has taken more than its fair share. I'll explain my reasoning, and to do so will make a number of assumptions.

                          These are:
                          1) The total UK population is 60 million. A low figure.
                          2) The total population of Sweden is 9 million. Roughly the same as London.
                          3) That the BBC list that Harry posted is relatively accurate. Or at least, any faults in it apply to all countries mentioned.

The UK took in 36,000 migrants.

Sweden took in 152,040. To put that into perspective, the equivalent numbers for the UK would be 152,040 in London alone, or just over 980,000 for the whole of the UK!

So yes, Sweden has taken in more than its fair share. I personally have nothing against genuine refugees that flee in order to save their own lives. Neither do I have anything against people that move to another country in order to improve their lives. Thats a normal thing that many people do.

When they do move to another country, I do expect that in their new country, amongst other things, they abide by its laws, culture, and also contribute to it.

                            I quite understand. :grphg:

If most of the population went back far enough you would find that they were 'immigrants' - either economic, social, refugee or invader!

I'm the product of refugees, 500 years ago on my father's side and 100 years ago on my mother's side :old:

I don't think that you need to worry about your own situation as a significant proportion of our existing population (well before all this subject became of significance) are in a similar situation.

The East End of London used to be the main area that immigrants used to go, going back as far as the Huguenots and followed through to the Jews, Afro Caribbean and Bangladeshis of more recent times. It's full of people born in other countries. That's how our country managed to build itself so well.

The last available census figures show that over 55 thousand people in London were born in Germany and that 72% of the London population are British (various ethnic groups). So, about 2 million who are not registered as citizens - but are still British.

I don't think you need to worry about being picked out and deported :)

No upset caused @MrsTea :grphg: & at no point was I meaning to cause you any upset either :grphg:

My irritation is NOT with people like you, my irritation is with all these people coming in from countries to claim benefits, housing, health when they have never paid in & don't have any connection with Britain. I know a majority of the 'foreigners' do work & work very hard.
If I was living in say Siria I'd really want to live in the UK too & I would want to bring my family, it's human nature to want the best for yourself & family, so part of me does understand them wanting to come here, but we don't have enough housing or money to support them.
If I could I'd bring peace to world, everyone would have enough food, water & medicine & everyone would be happy :) it's nice to have a dream :)

:grphg: Thank you @Beckie76 ! I understand which foreigners you mean, the ones who come here, with no intention to pay in, but with every intention to take out. :wallbanging:

I am just worried that the government measures all foreigner with the same stick, that's all, but I am with you about those kind of benefit claimers and tourists.

Let's just hope they differentiate and hopefully leave me enough time to save enough to finally get registered after all.
