My lawn scarifier has just about had its day . I have heard good reviews on Einhell products - a budget end German make.
Einhell BG-SA 1231 Cordless Electric Scarifier/Aerator £90 at Argos. Has anyone any experience on this make good or bad ? My lawn is only medium sized so this will be the right size.
PS - I will be going for the mains version not the cordless
    TIA

Something I cant understand with that machine. They say it is cordless, but its mains powered. Surely cordless would mean battery powered?

Being the tool freak that I am, I have two of Einhells products. The nearest one to your scarifier being their Electric Hoe. Theres one thing that irritates me about it, that appears to be the same on that Scarifier. Its the on off switch.

If you look on the photo, you will see a box thing with a lever and button. In order to start the machine, the button has to be depressed, then the lever pulled back. Pulling the lever hold the button in place, allowing the machine to run.

I cant manage to push the button with the same hand that I pull the lever back with. So you end up either crossing hands, i.e. using the right hand on lever, left to press the button. Or swapping hands. That is, left to pull the lever, right to push the button, then swapping the hand on the lever.

One other thing. My hoe came with a spare set of carbon brushes for the motor. This suggests that they do not expect them to last very long...

@Sandy Ground , Just done a search and @fat controller uses the Einhell BG-SA 1231 . So if you have Einhell equipment and FC uses it as well, that is good enough for me :blue thumb:
Just ordered it on Amazon so it is 240v mains powered . The Argos cordless version advert was a little confusing .

Cracking bit of kit it is too @HarryS - so much easier than a manual scarifier.

M . you only need to scarify if you are a lawn nerd. Scarifying clears all the "thatch" etc from lawn thus giving more room for the weeds to grow

@HarryS do give a review of this once you've had it for a bit as I've been pondering buying one for a while and be interested to know what you think.

            cheers

I will do GG , it must be better than the heavy under powered thing I have now . I should use it next week so I will put a brief review on here . Amazon seems to be a good price at £90

@Gay Gardener , just assembled my Einhell scarifier , really pleased with it for £90. Seems to be well made . I fitted the spring tine cartridge which I found quite difficult - maybe quicker next time . I have spring tined the front lawn on height setting one , it removed a huge amount of lawn thatch - more than I thought . The grass box fills up in 10 seconds as usual . I find it better to run it without the box and go over with a rotary mower to collect the debris . One tip never stop the scarifier when in motion , if you need to pause to change direction just tilt it back on its wheels ,otherwise it can scarify too severely.

I though Einhell, a German company, had their products made in China (same as Apple).

They probably do have all their machines made in China and containered across , as so many companies do now .

Thanks for that @HarryS that sounds good. I had seen in some of the reviews that the catcher was tiny and filled quickly. The other thing that people criticised it for was the excessively short power lead, basically that when attached to an extension cord the connecting plug/socket were too close to the machine and therefore a nuisance. Do you find this is the case?

              Glad you are enjoying it.
              GG
