                It is virtually impossible to do a push up on the bottom of a swimming pool. Even if you squish all the air out of your lungs first, you don't sink enough to be able to do an effective push up.

                I tried this yesterday.

                    I'm not disputing this but just mentioning a fact. Fifty ears ago, whilst on holiday with friends my friend and I entered a competition. It was one of the many competitions that were held in the swimming pool.

                    My friend was a championship swimmer so he won the 'fastest swimmer' competition - which I didn't bother to enter. The one I did enter was "who could pick up the most soup spoons from the bottom of the deep end, in one breathe".

                    Although I wasn't much of a swimmer I was good at holding my breathe. So I dived in and swam along the bottom and picked up all I could. I came second :blue thumb:

                    My friend, although a superb swimmer, had never been able to float and would sink immediately if he stopped swimming. He didn't dive in. He sat on the edge of the pool, pushed himself off and sank straight to the bottom - standing upright! He then walked along the bottom picking up all the spoons and climbed up the ladder.

                    I guess that he may have been able to do push-ups on the bottom.
