:goodpost:ditto Fern4's remarks. I have had great advice about a whole range of subjects. If it hadn't be for Kristen (sadly no longer contributes) I would have made an expensive mistake when buying my new and probably last greenhouse. Plus I got great "legal" advice from Shiney, which was nothing remotely to do with gardening. I've also learnt amongst other things that I was completely mistaken thinking I was good at spotting a bargain. I'm in a different league to Scrungee who is top of the premier division:snorky:. He has saved me considerable amounts of money with his tips and alerts to bargains.

I love everything about this forum - I do enjoy reading the gardening threads and that is why I joined but I probably only have about 5% of the knowledge of the other gardeners here and appreciate being able to participate in off topic conversations simply because I don't have much to offer elsewhere! hmmm, just thought of an answer to the word association :snorky:

Is it just me, or would it not be logical that if you do not want to read about non-gardening topics, you would simply not go into Off topic threads? :)

I started this thread because of late the vast majority of posts are not gardening related and on the home page the "latest posts" section is dominated by games. Sometimes nine out of 10 of the "latest posts" topics are not about gardening. I am not saying don't have games but rather let's redress the balance and have most posts about gardening. This is after all a gardening forum. It seems some people agree with me.

It is interesting to me that in just a few hours this thread has gone to three pages. A few weeks ago I started what I thought would be an interesting thread about people's favourite plants:

          http://www.gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/superplants.109685/

It received replies from only two people which kind of surprised me as I expected everyone to have a favouite plant or two. One useful one was from Fern. (I note you editing your above post, BTW, which was the right thing to do and I removed my disagree rating.) What I like about this forum is the friendliness of some of the members and the exchange of gardening knowledge so lets have more of that. That is my point.

Lori: I am talking about the "latest posts" list which is the first thing I look at when I log onto the site. I don't go into the off topic section.

Although I'm not into playing the 'games' I have noticed that the time we have the overabundance of them appearing is from late at night to the early hours of the morning. So I assume that is the time of day/night that people play the games as a relaxation.

That's fine with me and I, then, just go straight through to the next page. No problem :noidea: :)

When you click on 'New Posts' that's exactly what the software puts up. I don't really want to have what I look at censored by the software.  If anyone is interested in putting up gardening posts at that time then they would appear on the list.

The thing about the new posts list is that there are only a limited number shown. That makes it easy to miss older posts. For example, if I had only checked the new posts list, I would have missed the scarifier topic from yesterday or the day before. If nothing is seen in the list, it might just be a good idea to look through the various sections.

IMHO, gardening has a lot of associated subjects. Of the original list posted, hosepipes and weather are two of those. Then there are others that have been mentioned on this thread. Recipes, crafts, for example.

I personally enjoy trying out new recipes from things I have grown. That's part of the reason I grow fruits that are expensive to buy locally. Various crafts, such as woodwork, metalwork, are just as creative as planning a new border - with the advantage that they can quite often be done indoors, away from the bad weather.

When you click on 'New Posts' there is, at the top and bottom, links to the previous pages of posts. all you need to do is, either, click on page 2,3 etc. or 'Next' and it will take you the previous 'New Posts' - simples!

It is a pity that the forum software doesn't have the option to opt out of certain forums/sub-forums because that could be incredibly useful in situations like this.

I dont think you can actually state that there should be more posts about gardening.
Mostly because often a thread that might start about gardening goes on to be discussing something completely different.
We could have warnings from Mods about going off topic, but unless its really upsetting someone I cant see the point.

I've been known to start quite a few threads that dont really go the distance, but who cares, I dont really, I'll just join in on someone else's thread.

Some threads go on for ages and I must admit I cant see why, its just the way things work out.

The exchange of gardening knowledge is there all the time, you just have to look around for it.

                  Just go with the flow.;)

As to favourite plants, I dont have one, it changes every day.:smile:

What a difference 24 hours makes! If the mods have done something to the feed, it seems to have worked. Thanks.

I think that's just the natural ebb and flow of an active, lively and varied community; who have a wide range of interests and knowledge.
As for favourite plants everything I grow is a favourite for one reason or another. Particular favourites get posted to the "what's looking good" threads as they come into season.

Been busy today, but it's so nice to look in here and see things being sorted out amicably :)

Yes, we know the new posts bit can get flooded by other stuff, but spring is here and gardening will take precedent soon :spinning:
