What jobs are we doing in the garden today 2016

I had thought of that @shiney but it's been dry here for the best part of three weeks and there's none about, only tiddlers under pots.

I do recycle but in this case not snail shells.

 

More of my grass experiment seeds sown tonight. Deschampsia and Pennisetum.

Noticed some of my Dahlia tubers are forming little signs of shoots now. So looks like they made it over winter... Hopefully.

Well GC folks i dont know about you but i is well n truly pooped after such a fantabulous sunny day i have only just sat down with a nice cuppa tea i'm too tired for even for a glass of vino Got so much cleared today BIG plus being that i finally tackled the plot that was positively overrun with Raspberry runners and couch grass It was well over due as it was so wet last Autumn it was nigh on impossible to get at it so once its been re tilled and re weeded in a day or so's time its ready to direct sow with wildflower mix After such a productive day i will enjoy an extra large vino tomorrow as DON'T forget folks set your reminders it's Gardeners World tomorrow evening Hope you all had a good gardening day too...God bless and its safe to say this BusyBuzzyBee will tonight

I should have added that to your "Seed Sown 2016 thread" ... I also cast adrift a packet of wild flower mix the other day into a small patch (well, to be honest, everything is small patch compared to my last garden ) the other day. Got my

 

Today has been more "garden related" than "in the garden" for me. I shall explain.

Last year, I had to put my old Chipper/Shredder to rest, as its engine was using more oil than petrol. As I seem to remember mentioning on here, I did replace it with a mains electric powered one. Although this is fine for what it is, and does a better job than the old one on some bushes, I'm not entirely happy with it.

So, I decided to repair the old. The big problem is, the engine on it is a Tecumseh, and that company went out of business in 2009. Which makes parts and/or replacement engines difficult to find. A lot of trawling and emails later, I found a possible replacement. It got ordered just a few minutes ago. I will need to make a few parts up to make it fit, of course, but I'm hoping that I can make it work.

The suspense of waiting is already killing me...

 

Managed to get a couple of hours in the garden the last few days.

Put some grass seed down and netted against critters where trees had been removed. Did some trimming and pruning. Mulched around the rhubarb. Put an application of moss killer down. Finally got time to replace my Cotoneaster, went for the easy option in the end with a 6'. Hope I don't regret. Weeded the veg beds, something is still munching my cabbages, duh! but early purple sprouting broccoli looking very sturdy. Sorted the cane fruits as well a bit. All done in a bit of a rush but needs must at the moment.

Nice to see the Lithodora and Saxifrage starting to bloom and the shrubs starting to leaf. Tulips and daffs on the way out.

Created a new border today - think that was enough to be going on with

 

Just come in to warm up for a bit. It's not warm out today. Removed loads of horrible soil after repairing wheelbarrow. Replaced topsoil and had a massive tidy. New place created for Fuchsias when the plugs grow on. Lots of pots cleaned out and ready to be filled. Just need to go back out and tidy tools. Then will sit in the kitchen in the warm pricking out seedlings and put into pots. About 100 to do. A job I do not enjoy.

 

Just a few odd jobs this afternoon. Emptied out the three large pots of mint which sit by the back door, refilled them and replanted each one with a few pieces of root. Evicted a few sneaky slugs which were overwintering among the crocks in the bottom of the pots.

Pulled out several cabbage stalks still hanging around in the winter brassica plot, chopped them up and put them in the bottom of an empty compost bin.

 

I've read and re-read this @Gay Gardener, is it me or is there something missing here and you want to keep us in suspense.

 

Got home from work and removed all the glass from the greenhouse then got the neighbour to give me a lift into new position. All stewed down now. Need to give it a good clean frame and glass through the week and lay a a path of 2 and a half slabs. Refit glass and replace a couple of panels.

Good spot @Sheal - was a bit rushed, but it should have read Photina Red Robin. Not what I intended if you remember another thread, you suggested something much better but I did need instant size and anything else was a complete palaver to buy and get shipped here. Fingers crossed.
