    Does any one know which bean seed is this, was given them a few years back and i forgot about them :whistle: but not sure if they're runner or french bean or some other type of bean, can any one id them please DSCF3399.JPG

      Good afternoon @Jiffy my friend it could be a has-been on the other hand it could be a Sean Bean,sorry Jiffy I just couldn't resist that one:heehee:

      It could possibly be a black bean which are very beneficial to us:smile:

        They look like French beans, which can be both that colour and white.

        Never seen a Runner Bean that colour.

            Thank you all, so it's a runner bean and a french bean :snork: looks like i'm going to have to plant and see
            did do a bit of googling and it looks like there is a runner bean called Black Magic

                Sow a single seed, if the cotyledons remain in the soil it's a runner, if they are on the shoot appearing above the soil it's a French bean.

                    Posted my bit above from M6 toll motorway services on way back from bringing back daughter from uni for Easter hols, have a bit more time now:

                    French beans will look like this:

                    with the 2 seed cotyledons above ground either side of the first true leaves.


                    And runner bean seedling cotyledons will remain below ground (and vulnerable to voles), with just the first true leaves appearing above ground level:
