    Hi All,

I have moved the greenhouse to a safer spot away from the kids, but have broken a couple of panes of glass.

Not owning a greenhouse before. Where do I get glass from? A glazier? How much should I expect to pay? Is it special glass?

    Rusty

    Hi Rusty,

I always send hubby to get my glass, he gets safety glass it's about £18 per pane, He gets it from a local shop.
You can get it much cheaper from Ridgeons, but that's not safety glass.
It's nice to see you on the forum, I hope the hens are ok & the garden is coming along? :)

      Hi Bekie76,

Thanks for the reply. I am off work from Thursday and all next week so my plan is to have 3 days or so to get the chicken coop and run started, then with the lighter evenings coming I can do a couple of hours a night on coop and garden as there is more to do than I initially thought(weather depending). Lots of levelling and borders to make etc.

      Rusty

there are several greenhouses for sale on e bay ranging from £25 to £40 may be worth getting just for the glass if there is one near you.

Even the 3mm horticultural glass is very expensive from the glazier type companies and I've never found a cheaper source.

I've got a few sheets of glass from freecycle/Freegle in the past, always useful to have a few sheets spare.

Found someone on Freecycle gifting 19 panes of glass. I am going to pick them up this evening .

What is the best way to transport glass as I have never done it before?

When I transported some glass for my greenhouse I stood the up between the front passenger seat and the rear seats, and packed any gap with a dust sheet or similar, just so they can't move

                  Hi All

How do I fit the glass in the green house?

I have 2 types of clip which I removed when I took the glass out.
                  image.jpg

The ones on the left I can get in, but ones on right keep cracking the glass, but I do not have enough ofvthe springy ones to do. Also there are 2 pieces of glass high allround, but the one on top keeps slipping. I used silicon on it to seal it as I presume it needs to overlap to allow the rain to run off. I have forgotten how it went together and stupidly did not take pics.

I use the W clips, Its like a roof the top one should overlap I used Z clips to hold the top glass in, I fitted the bottom one first then slid up the top glass into the Z clips and it held it in place to get the W clips in

I got mine through a garden centre and it shattered in the hard frost that we had before christmas. I can't tell you how peed off I am about it. Lost several plants (including my Cubanola) and the winter blooming Salvia were stripped of their foliage and flower buds
So my tip is go to a reputable glazier and ask for safety glass as previously suggested.

Thanks for the replies. I got some Z and W clips today, so hopefully get it fitted tomorrow.

                    Rusty.
