Wild Flowers you have seen while out walking....!

Went for a short walk on Friday all round Freshwater/Colwell Bay and Totland here on the Island not been this side for long so it was a good chance to see what I could see

Please excuse the somewhat washed out and blurry photo's at times they were just snapped on my phone for convenience and plant identification.

I spotted this before I even got out of town it was just happily growing in someone's front garden parasitising on a Brachyglottis hybrid Common Broomrape (Orobanche minor)



First really nice flower I saw were some gorgeous Pyramidal Orchid (Anacamptis pyramadalis) up on Golden Hill Fort.



While I was up there I also spotted some rather small flowers of Thymus polytrichus? I think and another small flowered plant which I haven't been able to identify, any guesses? It will be going up on Ispot in a bit to find out.

A bit further down I came across a large patch of Figwort which after some debate on Facbook as been confirmed as Scrophularia auriculata or Water Figwort which was absolutely covered in little slug things and also a huge Mullein Moth Caterpillar! trying to confuse me by not being on Mullein...



Another rather abundant pretty plant which I have not seen before was this one
Blackstonia perfoliata or Yellow Wort it struck me as rather centaury like which is not a bad guess as it's in the same family



There was a huge plant of Everlasting Sweetpea (Lathyrus latifolius)in the wooded area which I've got to remind myself to go grab some seed pods off later in the year as it's one my favourites

 

After that I left Golden Hill Fort and made a trip down to Colwell Bay which had some beautiful sea views.



Whislt down on the seafront I unexpectedly came across a stand of orchids just growing just a few feet above the tide line which I'm told are a mixture of Southern Marsh Orchid and the hybrid with Common Spotted Orchid



and finally after leaving Colwell Bay I made a trip up to Totland to visit a fantastic little charity shop (choc full of fantasticly wacky 50's/60's scifi books for pennies) I spotted an Isle of Wight specialty (incredibly abundant in comparison to the Mainland) along the path past One Horse Field, Ivy Broomrape (Orobanche hederae)

The flowers reminded me of St. John's wort...sure enough, I see that they are both from the same family - hypericum.

Spotted first Bluebell of 2016 in the local woods this afternoon

 

Yours are a little later than ours @Scrungee - I posted the first bluebell I found in our woods back on 24th February (ridiculously early)

Does anyone know if deer eat bluebells? The reason I ask is that I have a lot of leaves that look like bluebells but everything has been munched off the top..
