A pair of doves sat in a vulnerable spot, we have a sparrow hawk around from time to time.

I was a bit upset about the 20 mph wind ruffling it's feathers preventing me from getting a crisp shot, but lucky to come across it and even notice it as it was only moving it's head occasionally, being only 1.5m up in the hedge helped.

Although we (was with Mrs Scrungee and our daughter) were actually looking out for birds in that hedge because we've previously seen Hen Harriers there, a friend has seen a Peregrine Falcon in it, and my FiL had his one and only Long-eared Owl sighting in 80 years of serious birdwatching in the same hedge.

Not a lot today as it has been lashing with rain all afternoon. Yesterday I saw my first bee, butterfly and ladybird whilst in the garden.

I have a Nyjer seed feeder but have stopped hanging it up. The birds never came for it and all the seed rotted in the feeder. I kept changing it regularly but gave up after a year.

On the up side, we've had a lot of bees in the garden for the last couple of months and a lot of ladybirds for the last month. Last year we didn't see any ladybirds until almost May.

You still need to look for them, though  There must have been a couple of hundred on this Cistus.
