All I saw yesterday was a Dartford Warbler (lower left) pushed of it's perch by a Meadow Pipit.

I was pressure washing the patio yesterday and a very fine spray of water settles on the lawn. Ten peacock butterflies appeared and seemed to be happily drinking the drops of water (not sure what else they could be doing). They weren't in the least bothered by the noise or the fine spray going all over them. :)

The noise, or my presence, kept the bigger birds away from the feeder (about 50ft from where I was working) but all the small birds weren't bothered at all. There were loads of tits and finches feeding and four of our robins.

We now have a new male pheasant that has turned up. He has white patches on his wings (about 4" x 4"). That now makes five males and seven females. :blue thumb:

A gang of noisy starlings turned up in the new garden yesterday. Yay! We also saw our first squirrel who helped himself to what was in the bird feeders. Looks like we will have to find something squirrel proof or the birds won't get a chance!

You lucky thing @Beckie76 ... I really miss the bats from my last home *sigh*

The past couple of days there has been a vivid yellow flutterby (identified, by Mr "M" as ... red admiral :loll: ). It's an amazing colour!

@Fern4 Hi Fern, it depends on what type of feeders you have. If they are anything like what is known as a candelabra feeder (a pole with a cross bar and feeders that hang down or stick up) then you can get a hemispherical squirrel guard. Ours has been successful for well over ten years. :blue thumb: It fits on the pole and squirrels can't get past it.
                              P1280003.JPG

For other types of feeders you can get ones that have the feeder inside a cage that has holes that birds can fit through but squirrels can't. :)

The birds in our garden get on well together - even our six robins don't fight when around the feeders  - but the magpies and collared doves are always scrapping (the doves usually win :blue thumb:). So I was intrigued to see two of them feeding at the same time from one of the feeders. Never seen that before.
