Last night I was so tired I didn't get as far as this thread before I fell asleep!
Yesterday we cemented the rose arch in :hapydancsmil: went to the garden centre & bought a few bits & bobs  5 roses (when I got home I'd only been charged for 4;)) & a packet of sunflower seeds :dbgrtmb:, I can't remember what else .
I planted up a few plants which I'd picked up from the farm shop, wyvale & our local nursery, weeded the flower bed at the front which is full of ground elder :gaah:, edged the drive, edged the flower bed near the road, cleaned out the hens, dug a new flowerbed near the arch & started another the other side then started some seeds off in trays, oh & I forgot went into work for 2.5 hours :phew:. I feel like I'm really making progress now. I can't wait for next Sunday when I can get out there again to finish off the new bed beside the Rose arch :hapfeet:.

Great job. :blue thumb: Just make sure that you don't feed them or put compost down. Wild flowers tend to prefer less nutritious soil.

Sat and watched the rain  Did venture out briefly to refill the seed feeders and fat balls, as I felt sorry for the bedraggled sparrows.

Pulled up some more Herb Robert :wallbanging:
Noticed some signs of life on my Virginia Creeper  so I've laid the stems horizontally to encourage upward growth along the stems.

The girls have now totally rid their area of any green growth, including weeds (other than the areas I have sectioned off), so I'll just keep turning it over and turning it over so that :fingers crossed: next year it will be ok for the fruit trees I have planned.
Read a little tip a few years ago (when I had ducks) that you should position their drinking water under a fruit tree so that, as they drink, they naturally "fertilize" the surrounding area for the fruit tree while they drink

The aster, echinacea and Canterbury bell seeds are all now poking out of their peat pellets - so I'm really thrilled about those

The sweet peas, which have been outside for the past couple of weeks are still growing strong and I'm thinking that I might well put them in the ground in the next week or two :dunno: I had some "dud" seeds though (sweet pea) which didn't sprout in the seed sprouter and were destined for the compost bin. As a last shot, I put them in a plastic pint pot, in compost and shoved them outside (a week ago). Blow me, but the beauties are now sprouting above the compost :blue thumb: Only 2 out of 10 so far, but that will do for me.

My potted amelanchier is full of promising buds just waiting for the right moment to burst into pretty white stars of delight. I was eyeing it up from the bench while I had my cuppa this afternoon and I thought: Sweet peas!!! How fab they would look weaving up through the amelanchier during the summer when those white stars have faded and it is all leaf. Nothing to lose by trying.

I know ... this is a cutting from a cutting from a plant I had in my last but one house. I took a small piece of it to my last house; it just started to take off when I knew we were going to move here. So, I took another couple of pieces and shoved them in when I got here.
Slow to get going, but, I do know, once it takes off ... the sky will be its limit :heehee:

First day back at work after 10 days off. Really bad day, as before I went on holiday I left certain tasks to be done, guess what? Nothing was done!! So after listening to a load of tosh as to why and sitting in meeting that actually have made no difference to the business, I was out the door bang on the button. Went home and loaded the car up with soil and rubbish from the garden. Cleared rubbish from the area where the chickens will live and loaded into car to drop off at tip tomorrow on way home. Dug first hole for post for coop and run then realised I had no gravel to mix with sand a cement to concrete in. I will get some tomorrow and hopefully set the posts.

After work around to the grandmothers again to try and finish off.
Had the bonfire :yahoo:now I now I can see what I've done and where I've been.
Unearthed around 10 bags of various daffodils, tulips and autumn crocuses that had been misplaced and forgotten about. They will need to be planted as soon as.
Just the lawns to edge (I think:heehee:) then nearly there.

Had another bonfire, started to dig through buried stones before getting topsoil ordered and planting can begin. There's tonnes of them :(

Also had a bit of excitement doing the bonnie - I'd lobbed in a small pile of general rubbish that you find knocking about the garden and suddenly heard a familiar fizzing noise - firework!! Hit the deck quite smartish just before the inevitable loud bang and whizzing ensued. I think it was an unspent cartridge from a rocket last Nov that I must have figured was just the cardboard shell. Oops.

I put on some dirty old ragged jeans and raggedy T Shirt and wellies [what I normally wear!!:snorky:] and went into the Green House. I emptied it of the 15 buckets of old tomato plants and added the old compost onto the borders, with the old tomato haulms going onto the Compost Heap which is gaining in height every day.:heehee: I ended up looking like Worzel Gummidge with old compost in my hair and, some how, down my wellies, down the back of my neck, and other extremities.:hate-shocked: I then checked the seedlings I had sown only a week ago and found the all the varieties of Tomatoes were up and looking strong along with the Cosmos, Zinnia's and several others. After that I dragged some old shrubs that had been dug up to make way for the Observatory to the side of the House so that I can shred them and recycle the shreddings back into the garden. By this time I was getting more aware of the compost finding new places to work into under my T shirt so I headed for a shower. There's still plenty of jobs to do but the garden is looking more like the garden I remember!!:heehee:

Wife broke a pane of glass in the greenhouse today, so I decided to replace 4 panels that are nearest the shed door with the polycarbonate I had forgotten I had in the shed. So removed the broken panel and cut the first one and fitted with silicone. Then my neighbour appears over the fence with a can of cider, so I have ended up not fitting the polycarbonate sheets, but chatting whilst having a few cans :dbgrtmb: and now it's dark so I will try again tomorrow evening.
