Went to get into the car today, only to notice some selfish no mark had smashed the wing mirror unit on my parked car.
The whole unit needs replacing and will cost a pretty penny I hadn't budgeted for and that's not to mention the fact I've had to reschedule my plans because the car is now at the Motor Dr's being repaired.

    GRR!!!!! [IMG]

Still, consolation is ... if their driving is *that* bad ... won't be long before they'll have self inflicted repair bills for their own vehicle and higher insurance premiums too!

Oh @'M' how flipping annoying :gaah:, I had the same thing happen to me down my nans road a few years back, so I feel your pain . I hpoe the repair bill isn't too bad.

Just for future reference, when this happened to me Kev got a whole new mirror & mirror plastic case bit (I'm very technical & knowledgeable when it comes to car parts :snooze:) off eBay it was about £20 & the right colour, he then fixed it on for me :pathd:,.

I don't need to (it seems!) the **** did it for me :th scifD36:
But, yes, I should do that (and will in future), thank you.
@Beckie76 - Mr "M" isn't DIY friendly and then the electrics would send him off a tangent best not thought about :rolleyespink:
The garage has called and the car is staying on the ward overnight. Bit over what I expected the quote to be but, I trust these guys.

It happened to my car some years ago (someone drove past me, too close :mute:) and it cost me £400 as my mirrors are electrically heated and folding mirrors  I've since learned that not only do they fold in when I turn the engine off but that I can get them to fold in whilst driving. I now do that when driving on very narrow roads.

Excessive charges, and stupid ways of processing transactions! :wallbanging:

This month got off to a pretty rough start as I was underpaid roughly £1400 in my salary, so what was already going to be a fairly snug month was instantly made into something of an impossibility. I will get this underpayment at some point, hopefully that will be in my next pay in just over a week's time (providing that there are no more foul-ups). To add insult to injury, our rent increased by £100 a month starting this month, and of course the council tax recommenced this month......

Anyway, things then got worse - apparently there was some sort of foul-up that had meant our direct debit to Virgin for our phone & broadband had been cancelled; the first we knew of this was an email from Virgin threatening to cut us off (nice way to treat customers of nearly 20 years!); Mrs C phoned them to sort it out and was told she would have to pay by debit card - not a problem, and whilst on she asked if the direct debit could be set back up. This was duly done, but to do so Virgin wanted the money for March and April all at once, merrily telling Mrs C that they wouldn't then take a payment until May! Paying for the due bill is one thing, but to have to pay for another a month in advance??? Hey ho, it was done so that was that. I ended up having to borrow money to pay the rent and see us through to payday (basically to cover direct debits), but all would come good by payday.........

Today whilst at work, I checked on my bank account and saw £95 in charges, so when I got home this evening I checked further and could not believe my eyes. Back at the start of February, I placed an Amazon order to the value of £29.58. One part of that order was to a Marketplace seller (£8.05) and the rest was all Amazon. I remember it well, as I had to add two packs of geranium seeds to the order to get it over the £20 threshold for the Prime delivery. Unbeknown to me at the time, Santander had applied a charge and my monthly account fee, and I forgot they were coming - - so, the Amazon order put me over my overdraft limit.

So, the charges comprised of £12 overdraft fee, £33 unauthorised overdraft fee, and then four separate £10 transaction fees for each part of the Amazon order which they had clearly processed in parts rather than one. So each packet of geranium seeds cost me £11.59! Worse still, if I hadn't checked this today, another two direct debits would have bounced and would have left us open to even more charges!

I have emailed Amazon customer services to see what their excuse is for processing the order bit by bit, and will be speaking to the bank in due course, but how on earth can this be justified on behalf of either the bank or Amazon?

No wonder people get in a financial mess so quickly, most of it is comprised of bleedin' charges! At least Dick Turpin wore a mask. :gaah:

Crikey FC, it never rains but it pours!!!! That is a budgeting nightmare :grphg:
That's one of the ways they make money on "free banking".

When the family were young we found ourselves in a similar situation with bank charges. It was pushing me to my absolute limits of endurance. Our income was more than our outgoings, except, for one month which set us behind; not by a lot, but enough to incur a charge and a fee. Trouble was, that had the knock on affect of putting us into overdraft forever onwards.
In desperation I called the bank explained our situation, how this had occurred, how it will be a self perpetuating debt from here on in unless we could find a remedy.

I don't think I was particularly "lucky" with the outcome, but I was quick to address the issues, explain our situation and, thankfully, they were able to come up with a solution which suited both parties. One of those solutions was as simple as moving the dates on a couple of the direct debits so that they were not taken out on or within 24hrs of payday! A little thing, but, it did make a difference.

Too many people are unaware that the situation has crept up on them and still others bury their heads in the sand when they are aware.

Glad you discovered all this sooner rather than later and I'm hoping when you speak to the bank they will help you find a solution which will suit you both :grphg:

@fat controller, get on to the bank my friend & kick some ass! As for Amazon keep kicking their ass too! I've never heard of anything so stupid they surely should have taken all the money in one go?

When did your rent last increase?
(A landlord can only increase rent once a year) also I'd say £100 in one hit is a lot, did you try to speak to your landlord?

Good luck with all of this & I hope you manage to at least get your bank charges back. :grphg:

Hi FC. Sorry to hear of your traumas and hopefully they will be resolved soon and in an amicable manner.

Regarding Amazon, I order frequently from them (.co.uk) and often have multiple items from different suppliers. In my confirmation e-mails Amazon tells me the shipments will come separately and I will only be charged when those orders are shipped. I feel the problem lies with your bank as Amazon does not know there is no money in the account.

Here is what I was told on a recent order for Tefal frying pans and a spatula, sold by different suppliers ...

"We thought you'd like to know that we've dispatched this portion of your order separately to give you a quicker service, at no additional cost to you. The remainder of your order will follow as soon as those items become available."

The total postage is then apportioned to each item.

I know this doesn't help your situation but I do think the problem lies with your bank.

My moan is only just a little one at the stupidity of things.

If you have an answerphone on your landline what happens when the caller hangs up after leaving a message? You'll only notice this if you happen to be there listening when they call.

Thy leave their message. You hear the click of them hanging up and....

...then, the answerphone says "Thank you for calling."!!!!! Why? :gaah: :noidea:
