And why do you think that is?? Could it be that ordinary people are fed up with wishy washy, gutless politicians supposedly running the countries.?
I think it's a particular time in the global political soap opera, Pete. The Americans are divided into States and don't like, in general, a Federal Government and in particular where the Government has been paralyzed by having a Democratic President made impotent by a Republican run Senate and Congress. The Scots lost faith in their Labour Government because of it's inability to do anything about the economy and raise their standard of living, it's growing weakness and ineffectiveness, it's loss of connection with the public, and the fact that those South of the border seemed to have been having more of a say in Scottish affairs than the Scottish Labour and people did. The drubbing the Labour Party got was partly because of the way it has lost it's way. The Public just got fed up with all of the Politicians, the scandals, the dishonesty, the same old blandishments handed out by all politicians, of all parties, to what they think is a mentally retarded public................all of that makes political circumstances ripe for the extremists and a backlash from the public.
I think it's simply because the majority of people are stupid. We have actual recent history to tell us what happens when disillusioned people side with a radical who blames everything on one section of society. Yet many seem to want to do it again. Insanity is when you repeat the same action expecting different results.
I disagree that the majority of people of stupid, Clueless. The worlds of the Policitians and the working people are, in reality, two different things. The working people are having a tough enough time staying employed, or finding a job that pays a reasonable wage, bringing up a family, paying the mortgage, rent and other bills, while dealing with all that Life sends them. We all vote in the hope that, maybe this time, despite all the failings, double talk and standards, corruption, of past politicians, and our own weary cynicism that when we vote for a person/candidate, who we've probably never met, that this time they'll be what we are voting for. I don't think personally, so far, that has happened in my lifetime.
The Scottish problem is 55% voted stay in the UK and 45% voted Leave the UK Then the Scottish elections came around, and the 45% leave voters all vote for the SNP The 55% stay voters then voted for the remaining parties, so conservative, labour, libs, greens have a split vote ending up with an SNP DICTATORSHIP and a never ending referendum for Independence (Neverendum)
Agreed That's why I specifically picked out people with their own homes in the south of England. Most of them automatically come into that bracket and have to be careful if they help their children with trying to get on the housing ladder.
I've got the government's leaflet now. I must congratulate them It's a masterpiece of misdirection and prevarication. Exactly what we expected. I’ve read it through, quickly, and apart from trying to put the frighteners on us it’s all ‘could’, ‘may’, ‘might’ etc. whilst trying to ignore that it ‘might not’ or even, ‘can’t see how it can’! The biggest, obvious, lie is their categoric statement that it’s a ‘once in a generation decision’. Absolute rubbish! We can have a referendum on it at any time we wish. Not that I’m advocating that. What makes you think that I’m not very impressed with it? If that’s the best that they can do for their 9.3 million then it’s tipping me a bit towards the ‘Out’ side! All I have to do now is to wait for the extra rubbish that's coming from the 'Out' group.
Shiney is too mean to buy Step Ladders @Anthony Rogers I think what got a lot of people's backs up over this Inheritance issue with our PM was that his father left £500,000 according to the article in the Daily Wail,£200,000 to his mother and then the other £300,000 came under the Inheritance Band of £325,000 per couple so wasn't subject to the tax people are talking about so the mother giving DC £200,000 as long as she lives for another few years he will be ok and won't have to pay the IHT although it will still be lower than the current IHT threshold so legally speaking they have done nothing wrong but as others have said in his job you have to be whiter than white if that is at all possible with anyone in goverment PS,I might have got this all wrong so please be gentle with me as I am not as brainy as some of you good folk on here what with me being blonde/grey PSS,@shiney we have had ours as well but being blonde/grey I thought I am a bit too thick to understand it
Ours arrived today, and what a pathetic money wasting bit of trash it is, no real information (I was rather hoping for about 10 pages of double sided A4 packed with facts), but it's worse than some fringe loony's election address, just speculation and even contradiction, plus they've used a German owned firm to print it!
I've never understood some of the viewpoints on inheritance tax. Parents work to earn money to help themselves and, eventually, their children. They pay tax on their earnings and then tax when they invest it/put it in the bank etc. So, when they die they would, naturally, want it to go to their children - or the cat's home or whatever. I think that it should go to their children without further tax being taken from it. In actual fact, what happens is that an arbitrary line is drawn above which they take tax That line depends on what politicians think will please their supporters. What makes it even more puzzling to me is that they don't take the tax if you give it to the cat's home, doesn't matter how much it is! OK, I'm not really that naïve but I think you get the gist of what I'm saying. In actual fact, there are much easier ways of not paying tax than trying to live another seven years after having given the money to your kids. So why they're having a go at Cameron is beyond me - except that's how politics works (or doesn't, as the case may be).
