Hi All, Recently moved into a end of terrace house with a 100 sqm back garden in Harrow (and in doing so had to let go of a recently turfed lawn in the previous house, which hurts a lot). Have a lot of ambitious plans , but no time ( managing a 6 months old new arrival to the family) currently priorities are trying to get the garden back in shape, which mean edging the lawn, removing moss (the lawn feels like a trampoline) , shaping a silver birch tree and getting the the flower beds in shape.
New to gardening, but like to try new stuff and find gardening relaxing.
Also after harrow council introduced a charge for disposing garden waste, not a keen composter ;).

Wow how things must have changed. My Brother used to live in Harrow. He had a sizeable garden and used to put out tonnes of garden waste for the bin men. Not a word was said far less having to pay. I thought successive governments were trying to encourage people to get out and be active/healthy, gardening achieves both. Charging for garden waste certainly doesn't encourage people to use their gardens productively. While we have plenty of more pressing problems up here in Scotland other than bin collections:rolleyespink: we, in my area anyway have special bins for garden waste and no charge YET!
Welcome to GC and hope you enjoy this informative and fun forum.

They are @silu They encourage people to get out into their gardens, produce more waste, then get them to pay for doing it. Usually using the "its good for the environment" excuse for what is effectively a stealth tax.:old:

          Welcome!
Should that read "now a keen composter"? If not why not become a keen composter. You can easily fit a couple of compost bins into 100 square metres!
What sort of new stuff. Pushing the limits of hardiness maybe?
