What jobs are we doing in the garden today 2016

Planted a few more broadies, they grow well and we like them. Scavenged a bucket full of potatoes while doing so, how do I miss such big ones? Weeded the edge of the path for a while until rain stopped play.

 

Humped 12 60l bags of compost down the garden for topping and mulching the beds later. Then tidied up the crocosmia, irises. Removed the blue grass and frosted curls they just looked a mess. A removed the rain shelters from the palms

 

No gardening today but cleaned my house windows outside again. Between the weather, salty sea air and the gulls they make a right mess!

 

Maybe, unless it is a horrid distaster, though I could start a new thread on How Not to Plant a Border ...

Giving things a good mulch where possible.
Forking the lawn a bit - not much as dodgy knee started playing up.
Some serious weeding.
Bought some Wax Begonias and put them into the shadyish windowboxes at the front, the best bet it seems to take care of themselves as we will shortly be going away for a month.
Next few days some final tidying.

Yesterday I planted up some pots with Sunflower "Little Leo". Did some more weeding (the bindweed is now rearing its ugly head ). Pricked out the Aster, Echinacea and Canterbury Bells; cleaned those seed starter trays and planted some more seeds (only they weren't labelled, so I'm going to call them "Hobson's Choice" )
Checked all the areas I had planted sunflower seeds a couple of weeks ago - no signs whatsoever so, today I planted some more! (They had better take! )

Is this a competition? Clearly a "man thing" going on here

 

Oooh, how exciting!! Is this to Spain for house viewing? We'll want pictures you know!

 

When I went back to a Homebase store to complain of a missing part they opened the box of another one and gave me the missing part. Next time I went in I saw the opened box back on the shelf and looking inside found the part they gave me was missing.

 

Not a lot planned for today as weather iffy, went to local shops and spoke to a chap cutting his lawn, he gave me a cutting off his beautiful coloured hydrangea, then he asked me if I grew tomatoes and cucumber, gave me 6 mixed, and good size, tomato plants, 3 marketmore cucumbers, and 3 Crystal Apple
The generosity of gardeners is always amazing.

 

Spent the morning emptying bags of compost and manure and then filling them up with the sodden gloopy soil from the waterlogged area. The suction trying to remove that mess was incredible. I am exhausted so a trip to the tip will have to wait until I am recovered. Won't be today, that's for sure.

 

Tip run today here @Everhopeful - but I left that task to Mr "M" (who used *my* car for the trip! )

One area of the patio has been pretty much a dumping ground since we came here (sans shed) but today that changed. While I wasn't looking, Mr "M" decided to make a start on clearing things. Thank goodness I caught him just in time to "salvage" what *he* considered rubbish
He almost keeled over when I retrieved a small drawer and his face was a picture!
"What do you want that for!?"
"A shelf, silly!"
While he was gone, I had another look at the very weeny space between where my patio concrete ends and the neighbours concrete begins - weedy! If weeds can grow there ...

... so, I dug down as far as I could, unearthed the soil that was there, replaced it with compost ... planted some bits and bobs ... sowed a few seeds in there (pansy and dianthus) ... watered, bark dressing and voila!! They have two choices: thrive or not, *but*, the whole point is, if I can get something to grow there, I will be very, very, happy. My neck isn't, and my knees are having a bit of a squabble with my legs and I (foolishly) caught the sun on the back of my neck as I was bent over ... but ... apart from all of that: a happy and successful day playing in the garden
