Tetrapanax papyrifer

Hey guys just got a tetrapanax papyrifer dose any one have experience growing this here in the up apparently it's root hardy but just wanted to see if anyone has grown it on here and has any tips

 

i have 3 now, the biggest (which is a couple of year old) is about 6 ft. never needed to protect them and non of them have defoliated. they need a lot of room because the leaves are huge. enjoy yours!

 

I have several of these in the garden and i do not do protect them and my garden is a frost pocket and they come back no problem every year.

 

Mine appears to have died back to the previous years wood, ie all last years wood is dead.
But then it did decide to flower around october which wasn't a good idea.

 

Think yours is more established than mine @JWK
Mine is only a single stem, and all new buds have been destroyed by slugs.

So its basically just a stick

 

Thanks guys I can not wait to get it in the ground but going to wait till may don't want a frost to knock it back as it's got about 5 leafs on already and is only small

 

i think it is John. i've left 3 ensettes out all winter, the biggest one 3 years old also, and they have survived. pushing up new rollers as we speak. it has been mild, although very wet, and we have had quite a few frosts too.
