Tropaeolum climbing or scrambling species

Hi, anyone growing these please, i will be creating two areas for climbers and was going to go with roses, but after seeing these i am having second thoughts,

My garden is south facing and the plants will be quite sheltered at low level in the winter months, many thanks for any information, if the thread is in the wrong area please move as i was unsure.

I haven't grown any of those but have you thought of Tropaeolum Speciosum, the Scottish Flame Flower ?

 

Hi Anthony, i will certainly have a look at them they look lovely thank you, my knowledge on plants is very limited/none existent, for some reason i am obsessed with climbers atm,

Maybe its because my lawn is getting smaller and vertical growth doesn't take much lawn up.

 

I don't know why but I've always loved / been fascinated by climbers. I'm trying out loads from seed this year, just don't know where they're all going to go yet Lol

 

Well Antony, when i got past the grass seed stage the first things to go in was climbers both fences left/right of the lawn is full of them including ivy's ,

I've now run out of space to fit anymore, so i will be making two harbours/whatever there called, i didn't realise there was so many different types, Morrison's stocks are very limited .

Sure you will find space/homes for them

 

Just be careful not to buy a late winter/spring blooming species!

Climbers are good value in terms of blooms per floor space and I've grown a goodly few over the years. Here are some of them...............

The flame flower is beautiful it grows like a triffid in my garden i love the blue seeds. It does need it's root in the shade though and will grow away through any thing to reach the light. Oh and i have tried most of the other varieties but they died, i don't think they are nearly as hardy as the flame flower.
