Gave 6 of the best Gardeners Delight away to my neighbour, save her buying them and threw my 3 away, looked awful pale, thin and not growing. Sowed Golden Sunrise and 100 and 1000's about a week or so later than the Gardeners Delight and they have more leaves, stronger looking stems and smell better. Didn't sow the heartbreaker vita f1 after as I thought I'd have too many but may do so later now :)

When do you start feeding your toms? Being a novice I only fed them when I put them outside last year/year before.

Only start feeding when the first fruit have set, use a tomato fertilizer with a high potash content (such as tomorite) twice a week as indicated.

Thank you will do, picked up Doff tomato feed the other week. Not sure how that compares to tomorite, ah well :)

Lynd I think the Doff is just as good. I've sometimes bought even cheaper stuff from Poundland which is also OK, just look at the list of nutrients on the package - by law manufacturers have to accurately label fertilizers:

Ok, I don't really read the back of them be honest I thought there might not be much diff in feeds. I use other doff products, haven't been dissapointed so far and they're cheap in home bargains

At this time of year when young tomato plants may be suffering from lack of light (or even growlight stress) I get tempted to give them a very light feed.

I grow 300+ Tomatoes p.a. and always get some that are pale, thin, runts that need chucking out.

Mine we're extremely leggy after germinating indoors. I had to pot them up and pop them in the greenhouse. Fortunately, even though the temps have dropped down to freezing a couple of times they seem to be doing ok.

Those look nice. A good touch of purple anthocyanin shows they've been slowed down by the cold and are well 'ard!

I would have nipped off their seed leaves, potted them on into smaller pots than those used and buried them almost up to their first true leaves, and if they continued to grow spindly buried even more stem the next time they were potted up.

Any tomatoes left out overnight here would be dead the next day, there was a very heavy frost this morning.

I'm hoping things are going to change later in the week, but it looks like frosts and freezing morning temperatures here right up to and including Thursday morning.

I plant out 3 tomato seedlings , and leave the others outside to harden off tonight

                          Maybe a risk
