    Hi Sheal,

Please take care driving in those conditions and if it gets any worse think hard about whether it's really worth it for a half hours saving on time.

Beyond a joke, heavy snow falling and it's lying. Just in from putting a rug on the horse, he had his thick New Zealand (waterproof thick rug) taken off after winter at the beginning of this month. With this weather he needs it back on. Have had horses for over 30 years, I've never had to heavily rug any of them this late into the year before. Was meant to be driving into Edinburgh early tomorrow, I'll be lucky unless things improve considerably. We only had 2 days of snow all winter and now this, bonkers:rolleyespink:.

I wouldn't go up there if the conditions were dangerous @Anthony Rogers, but thanks for your concern. :) There are electronic boards at all entrances to the mountain road telling us of the conditions, if they are too bad the roads are closed. The road I use has so little traffic on it that it's possible to drive down the middle for most of the way, keeping clear of those 'drops'. :)

"snow dig"29th April and tools needed out in the garden today? Snow shovels, it's unbelievable. Poor newborn lambs, they will really struggle if this ridiculously cold weather and quite heavy snow lasts for any time. Just seen the farmer turn up with a big bale of hay for the ewes. How newborns are coping further up North who knows but not well. I hope most lambs further north haven't been born yet. While it's annoying for me and my garden it's not a matter of life and death.

Yesterday had a cold wind all the time but it was quite good working in the sunshine.

Rain during the night and two power cuts  We had them last Thursday as well!) 47F at the moment, rather breezy and the sun struggling to come out.

That sounds very bad for the poor lambs up there.

No frost here this morning although a chill wind makes it feel cold first thing.

The forecast here is for another couple of near freezing nights then warming up. I might be risking planting things out on Monday.

Oh wow I'm just back in from surveying the damage to my garden:sad:. It's not as bad as when my garden was literally swept away after The River Clyde (rose 27 ft above normal) but it''s very very bad due to the heavy fall of snow overnight.
Apart from basically everything which was flowering having been frosted brown I've got huge branches of my glorious Cedar Atlantica Glauca down. 2 big Ceanothus have split in 2 and are complete goners. I've branches down on 2 Cherries, ALL my 500 odd pheasant Eye Daffs won't even flower as they've been completely flattened as have the ones that were looking lovely. I've branches off Camellias and 1 of my massive Choisyas may be split right down the middle like the Ceanothus, certainly it's keeled over. I couldn't stand wandering round any longer to go and make sure. The snowfall was so heavy add in the sap having risen in the plants which made them softer than during the winter and it's caused havoc. We haven't had as much snow here since 2011. It's my birthday today so feeling pretty fed up and NOT in the party mood at all. It's days like this that make me question why I flog my guts out looking after 2 acres of garden. Photo is what the bank looked like last week, today not 1 daffodil is standing far less their leaves , even the flowering current in the background has lost most of its branches. Obviously the daffodils will come back again, not so some of the other things so badly damaged. On my "profile" I put up when joined GC I said "gardening easy....hmmm" days like today ain't easy to take when I work extremely hard. I make no excuse for feeling sorry for myself and as the damage is done (snow melting fast) there is no point in trying to rush and try to minimise the effects of the weather. Can't even be bothered to start clearing the huge mess. Leave that for another day. I was expecting frost damage but not a huge dump of snow when it's almost May.

It's cold and wet this morning....no sign of the sun. The thunder and massive hail stones last night were impressive though!

We had those too, only for about 2 or 3 minutes, made the garden white over then disappeared just as quickly. Luckily all my tomato plants were hardening off near the house and had some shelter otherwise they would have been shredded.
