What jobs are we doing in the garden today 2016

Hi, I bought 140 petunia plugs yesterday not in trays, after some good advise from our members thank you ive planted them up, now on to installing decking.

 

Was a bit concerned I was asking just a little too much from a couple of plants I'd put into a weeny space at the weekend. So, I've just dug them up again and planted them up in tall pots. Took the opportunity to put some sweet peas into the same pots then realised I haven't got any trellis for them so I created some from bamboo canes and some plastic type mesh. Doesn't look a million dollars, but it should do the job

 

Not done/doing anything much in the garden, too cold and I realise I have to give up on it! (apart from my pots and the plants I'm taking with me)
Had a potch in the shed.. got rid of a dvd unit thing, high chair and other rubbish, moved the freezer out of the corner.. Lo and behold, I find a xmas paper wrapped LABELED tuber, white ballet, thought I had 'lost' it in with the unlabeled ones and half a begonia.. not sure how I got half of one but hey ho! it's got 2 shoots on it!
Had to pot up 2 hollyhocks and 2 snapdragons which germinated in a seed tray which was left in the porch and 4/6 sunflowers have shot up, 2 evening sun and 2 giant.

 

Well, there was a lull between the storms, and so I took full advantage of it.

I weeded the herb bed, removing a straggly white-flowered plant, that disguises itself as forget-me-not, bindweed (yes folks, it's stirring!), and young dandelions.

Two wood panels were bound together with a metal strip.

My plastic/metal/ tetrapak recycling store has been undermined by mice! I went to put this month's sack out, to find that mice had eaten through the bottom of the plastic completely.... So after rebagging my recycling (and the bags are not cheap, meeces!), I have placed wooden boards beneath the open-bottomed store, to slow their progress.

I have also fixed a rather attractive wooden pallet to hid the bin store....

Time for "glas wijn"!!'

 

I had a little time today, so I've potted on and sown more seed, we now have no room on the table to eat and my greenhouse is full! I've just ordered a tall cold frame! I have also replanted my onions as my chickens decided they were in the wrong place, I'm waiting to find the garlic I think that has been kicked over to my neighbour. I do love my chickens.

 

The weather has been fairly horrid this afternoon so all I have done is pot up some bare root roses (accidental bargain... It said in the shop they were 3 for £5, or £2.50 each, so I went for three, only to find they were actually £1 each!).

Was planning to do a bit more but currently there is sun for a few minutes, then hail, then rain, then a bit of sun, then more wet stuff. Good for the plants I guess!

 

Moved a tonne of top soil before 8am, filling my raised bed

Made a start on my alternative to hanging baskets.....some cheap shelves and drilling out circles for the pots to sit in. It should fit 5 but not sure if that will be too crowded.

Popped out into the garden this morning only to be followed by the furboys: Echo took up residence in the sun on the chair I had just put a cushion on for *me* to sit on He's an indoor cat, but I can't begrudge him a little sunny spot for a bit of sunbathing. Then Ozzy decided he was going to play "follow my leader" with me until I finally decided what I was actually going to do in the garden now I couldn't sit in my chair with a cuppa!

I've had a Pittosporum in a pot for the past two years and it was positioned under the bird box which is nesting blue tits. But, it really needed to be put in the ground. Mr "M" had left for work and it was a big pot, needing a big hole. Plus, if I was moving it away from under the bird house, it needed replacing with another potted shrub ready for the fledglings. So, dragged the large tub with the contorted hazel in it to under the bird box, having dragged the pittosporum tub out of the way. Then, began removing (temporarily) the primroses in the patch where I wanted the shrub. Dug a big hole a bit too deep; back filled, planted the pittosporum, replanted and repositioned the primroses, decided to move my concrete cast "lady" and create a bird bath in the same area. Bark chipped the lot. Watered it all in (aha! Remembered that this time ) had to wrestle Ozzy away from the hose end because *he* thought that it was a good game to try and drink the water as it came out of the hose and all the while I was getting soaked!
Tidied everything away, got changed, felt really pleased that I'd done the heavy work without the aid of Mr "M" or a safety net; made a cuppa, went back outside to enjoy it and ... it's now all clouded over, the temperature has dropped and whereas this morning I could have worked in a T-shirt, if I wanted to enjoy my cuppa outside I would have needed a winter coat!

So, back indoors and have a bath running instead

 

Mowed and edged the lawn. Did a bit of general tidying up and weeding around the borders.

Dug up some runners from a patch of Kerria in a shady corner of the garden, potted three of them up for youngest daughter, as she wants some for her garden.

Planted out a white Hellebore, which came from Shineyland a couple of years ago and has been living in a pot up to now.

Mind you, I can't say anything because I've done something to my hand today It was fine until I got out of the bath and then: ouchie!
