What jobs are we doing in the garden today 2016

Planned to start work on the chicken coop/run, but after I got all my power tools out it started raining. Put them all away and pottered in greenhouse until it passed. This happened about 4 times and with only 3 pieces of timber cut, I threw in the towel and watched the snooker all afternoon.

Been away on hols for a week, returned this evening to find the trailing lobelias in the wall hung baskets, and the Mrs Cholmondesley clematis which is under our canopy, all very dry and thirsty! It must not have been as wet here in Berkshire as it was in Norfolk this week . Also the £5 Niobe clematis I picked up from Homebase 3 weeks ago is going great guns, with gangly shoots all over the place. I'm planning on planting that out front - hopefully tomorrow when that is sorted...

Speaking of which, had a late evening trip to Homebase where we packed the car full of 9 bags full of pale stone pebbles, which is going under the bay window to replace the current mismatch of stones we inherited. Poor car nearly had a heart-attack getting up the hill on the way back! Planned to buy a Guernsey Cream clematis from homebase too but they were sold out (my gf is from Guernsey and I wanted a white flowering clematis, so we've agreed on that variety!).

Tomorrow's jobs involve a drive to the next furthest out homebase hoping they have that variety. Also getting the compost/grit etc to plant the clematis's, buying some new gardening gloves (one of my "sturdy" 2 year old set rotted through a fortnight ago), and also investigating where currently has the best deals on lavender plants (English only, none of those French ones ). Homebase has 3 plants for £9 offer, but they seemed quite small. Gonna try B&Q tomorrow... any other suggestions?

Oh and also we're off to our local small garden centre for brunch, hoping I'll come away with a plant or two on the quiet.

I've got a staple gun which I used to attach some chicken wire to wood: a) to keep the chickens out of the main garden and b) to direct the climbers up the trellis. It's held ok (so far)

 

Up early yesterday and filled up my raised bed with a tonne of topsoil/compost mix. Planted it up today, needs to mature a bit though.


And today I did this...need some more pots though, I cleared Homebase out yesterday. Oh. And plants. I need plants.

@NCFCcrazy - looking fab!! What are you going to plant in all those pots? Looks like a nice sunny spot and, being between the door and window simply begs for something scented! Herbs perhaps?

Planted some pansy seeds in the "Little Leo" sunflower pots; earthed up my competition potato; potted up, and planted out, a chive plant (bought from the reduced counter at Morri's the other week) then enjoyed the sunshine and the garden with Oz

 

Yeah, it's south facing so plenty of sun. Definitely planning on some herbs, and tumbling tomatoes. Scented plants would be great, trying to get as many scented plants as I can at the moment. I haven't really focused of scented plants before, no idea why, nothing better than stepping into the garden and being hit by the smell of your flowers.

Spent 2 hours today potting on things in the greenhouse. Most of my dahlias have buds showing or are shooting now which is nice.
Put the paraffin heater away so I have some floor space in there again, yay! It's still jam packed in there though.
Husband mowed the lawn and then we painted our kitchen. Had a friend over to visit and now relaxing for the evening.

Managed to get the lawn cut yesterday, before the rain set in.

 

I got on really well yesterday, I planted up some delphiniums, foxglove, geums& various other bits & bobs, set the traps for the rat , weeded, cut the grass, swept the patio, edged the patio, cleaned the house, managed to get three loads of washing dry on the line ,cleared the greenhouse where the hens have been dust bathing over the winter & cleaned the house , this morning my body aches, but it's all worth while I shall take some paracetamol for my back & hope by the time I get back from work I shall be fit enough to get back in the garden weather permitting , if it's raining I might start potting up my baskets & pots I can do that in the greenhouse .
It was lovely to have a whole day off yesterday

Yesterday I cleaned out the sponge filters on my water pump - it's working like new again now! Also weeded a trug-ful of dandelions out of the grass, near the patio and patio windows. You can't really see where I've been, but I suppose it would look worse if I hadn't done it!

Today I've put my yellow-pear planters in position, with drainage crocks in the bottom. A little early to plant them out, but maybe time to start to think about hardening off a couple of the plants...

I've also evicted a bumble bee from our doorway (see wildlife forum), and am currently having a great from clearing the weeds from the edge of the driveway.

I hope to clear the driveway edge on both sides, and cut the grass. That will probably take me most, if not all, of the day!
