This morning was cold, grey and light rain. Which then got heavier. Had planned bike ride  So decided to paint conservatory wall. Discovered we have a leak, paint flaking off and wall feels damp. Not amused! Weather cleared about 3.30 ish so went to beach. No one there :) saw a whole rainbow, which was reflected in wet sand creating a rainbow ' eye ' - how cool is that :). Sat on caravan steps after watching/listening to birds - Swallows swooping right over our heads - and had chat to Cows in field. Mr Bull and his 4 ladies. I love Cows, would really like to own a couple. :wub2:

Took CL1.1 to his first proper swimming lesson, then joined him for a swim. Then off for my gym introduction, and a workout. I'm nursing several injuries at the moment, and told the gym instructor this, so she's set me up with a routine specifically designed to rehabilitate my injuries.

Then sat for a while in my dad's allotment, had a good chin wag, then takeaway curry and home, fell asleep on the sofa for a while. Still there now but awake at least. Hot salty bath in a minute then cold beer.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon on my knees in the Lounge putting together a TV cabinet for the new TV. Luckily, the plans were pretty good and it only once had me scratching my head due to lack of explanation of how to position one piece. I'm pleased with the cabinet as it's a really solid, real wood, construction and looks good especially after I gave it a coat of proper wax to bring out the grain. Having said that nearly 5 hours on my knees, even on a carpet, using hand tools rather than power tools as the makers said it was better to do so, I was aching in all the places where you can ache and some that you're not supposed to:dunno: So I ended up heading for a hot shower, a mug of tea, [along with a lot of ooches and ouches], and trying to found a position that didn't produce another ache!! I slept well though!!

It's been a very busy morning! Have recorded some new guitar parts for a single my band are releasing soon, and have made a few options for cover artwork and been chatting with the other band members about the video-we've made the first draft, it needs a couple of tweaks but will be good to go after that.

Arranged a weekend away preparing for a friend's wedding, I'm the photographer, so going to visit the venues and find out more about what they would like from the photos. Now making some pizzas from scratch, the dough is rising before being knocked back and the sauce is on the simmer. Have a few busy days over the next few weeks so it will be good to know there are some easy meals in the freezer!

We have just got back from a very relaxing week up in the Yorkshire Dales staying on the CC site at Threshfield and I must say it has been one of the best weeks weather wise:smile:

We/I took enough clothes for four seasons and to be honest I have brought most of them home unused because the weather has been so good despite some people who Mr Kandy is related to trying to put the mockers on the holiday by saying we were in for some extreme weather conditions (we were a week late for those:snorky:)

We have seen so many lambs,primroses,cowslips,birds(67 for our holiday list:smile:) etc and we also had a fly over of two Hurcules planes very low right over our caravan but couldn't get a photo as I was recharging my camera battery at the time so had to watch them instead:snorky:

Mr Kandy had a brilliant birthday/retirement day with lots of cards and prezzies from family and friends and is so looking forward to turning off his alarm clock tonight so now he will be able to get up when he wants (within reason:snorky:)

I have already made a start on the washing and have already got one load done and also have watered the garden and greenhouse as the heat has been a bit too much for them and some of my cowslips and cyclamen in pots have wilted:sad:

Hope you all have had a good week:smile:

I guess you know the proper way to use a walking stick, but just in case :noidea: - the stick should normally be used in the hand opposite to the affected leg. Going upstairs the stick should be on the same step as the affected leg. When walking up or down steps the good leg goes up first when walking up and the affected leg first when walking down. (Good up, Bad down).

The length of the stick should allow you to have your elbow slightly flexed when you're standing upright - whereas hiking sticks should have your elbow with your lower arm at right angles.

                    Here endeth the lesson :heehee:

How come the stick goes on the opposite side? I've used mine to transfer weight from my hip and knee to my arm on the same side. Surely putting the stick on the opposite side would transfer more weight onto the injured side would it not?

No, when your moving your injured leg (let's say it's the right leg) you're able to take the full weight of your body on your left leg and left arm. The natural tendency is to lean to the left (away from the damage) so all the weight is on the left and supported by your leg and stick. The stick is moved forward to be level with the bad leg. The important thing to remember is that the leg receives less pressure when kept straight. So as you move your bad leg forward you are then bringing it in line with the stick.

When you move your good leg forward you can lean on the stick, on that side, and take the weight off the bad one.

I'm sure there are better explanations on the internet. :blue thumb:

With going up and down stairs it's easier to explain. first of all, you are likely to be holding on to a rail. 'Good up' is because your bad leg will remain straight whilst the good is taking the weight on a bent knee whilst lifting the body. 'Down bad' is the same in reverse. The bad leg is kept straight and all the pressure is on the good leg/knee as it bends to lower you.

I've been using it on the bad side. I've cut the stick to be the same length as my leg, from hip to floor. I hold it at the hip, and swing it in perfect time to stay next to my foot. This was I can easily adjust the load between stick and leg while maintaining something close to a normal posture. I think this is important because I was to eventually restore normal operation :)

Today I have been in minimal pain, despite my 2 mile lunch time walk taking in a couple of steep hills. I seem to be gradually returning to normal thankfully. Maybe another month and I might be able to ease gently back into martial arts training.

Was supposed to be spending day gardening. However, weather was perfect biking weather ( hazy sunshine with gentle breeze ). So we cycled over to Melin Llynon, which is North Wales only working Windmill:). Nice ride through the leafy back lanes with lots of cows and sheep to get there and then sat in tea room garden with the ubiquitous coffee and cake. Was going to buy a bag of flour, but decided against it when saw £7.00 price tag for 1 1/2 kilo bag.:yikes:.
