Hello, my name is Hayley & i am Bertie Doe of Wisley Gardens grand daughter.
I am really trying to find any information or better photos of my wonderful grandad. Unfortunately I dont have connections to other family members so ive decided to find out for myself about his talents, i remember spending days with him in his garden and the little things he taught me ie: using ale as a slug repelent, but up until now i havent really had a garden. well i now have a lovely house with a garden but im at a loss on how to utilise the space and so i got thinking about grandad and this is why im here????
PLEASE can u or anyone help me with my search.
I have attached 2 photos of my garden, which is my new project in memory of nanny n grandad doe

Hi Hayley, well, i did not expect to stumble across somebody talking about Bertie Doe. I was Berties neighbour for 17 years. I have many memories of him. I can remember Bertie passing me strawberries from his garden. One time i witnessed him put a fork through a mole who appeared from beneath his lawn. Another time though he took a nasty peck whilst releasing a pheasant which was snagged in a fence. Bertie would let us collect snails from his garden so we could race them. I remember Bertie appearing on The Generation Game on Tv as a gardening expert which was the biggest show at the weekend back in the day. For a time Pippa Greenwood and Anne Swithebank from Gardeners World were our neighbours too. I also remember being in the large greenhouses at the RHS when Bertie met the Queen Mother. It was a golden generation of RHS gardeners. The Doe family were lovely. His wife Ruby Doe was so nice.
