Hello all. I was hoping I could get some advice from someone with a bit more experience than myself (which shouldn't be hard since I have no experience at all lol) I've just moved in to my first house and I have no idea what to do with the little garden space I have. I'll take some pics and post them up, hopefully you guys can help me out :) dont need anything special, just need to get some colour and character in to it
I'd like to do the back garden too, problem is I've just bought a puppy and she is a nightmare with chewing plants! So we'll give that a miss until she's grown out of it

Thanks in advance for any guidance given :)

:sign0016:. We all had to start from somewhere. Good plan probably re the puppy it would just cause trouble if your newly purchased whatever got shredded!
It would be good to have photos, rough dimensions of the area what aspect(north facing etc) type of soil, ie does it drain well after rain, is it very clayey or sandy and most important perhaps what part of the Country you live in. What's fine for Devon ain't for Aberdeen! The ph of you soil would be useful but at this stage not vital. Also give an idea of what you like. Shrubs/trees/herbaceous/annuals? Lots of colour? and what colours you like, big foliage plants?, low growing/tall?, the choices are huge and it's a help to narrow the choices down a bit. Hope you enjoy Gardeners Corner, there are many very knowledgeable folk on here who will give you ideas I'm sure.

So here's a quick photo of the front garden. Looks like the previous owners just put a membrane down and barked over it. Low maintenance I suppose but Im after something more welcoming! Pretty sure the garden is facing East, as for the soil I have no idea I'm afraid until that membrane comes up :( it should drain pretty well since its on a fair gradient, but I couldn't say for sure Haha. So I live in very rainy Wales. Swansea to be more exact, although saying that it's a beautiful day today.
Ideally I'd like maybe 1 or 2 low growing shrubs and then possibly surround them with some flowers of sorts? Excuse my ignorance it's a little embarrassing Haha. Whatever colours suit me to be honest I'm not too fussy.
The patch is roughly 4m x 3m, just a rough guideline dont hold me to that :snork:
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome :)

Here she is the little plant destroyer! Her name is Luna and she's an 11 week old alaskan malamute  no matter how many plants she chews I just can't seem to get annoyed with her. Who could with that face?
