2016 Tomato Growing

Can you slide a bit of board under them?

 

I would transplant too. I have 8 by 8 greenhouse as well and four plants will take up half my greenhouse

 

Well, yesterday marked the end of the latest bout of frosts, so I have taken the risk and planted some more tomatoes outside.

I now have 4 yellow pear tomatoes, to grow up trellis work on the side of the house; 2 tumbling toms in a trough next to the house, and 2 gardeners delight in the veg bed. Just 4-5 more to plant outside now! Then to find a home for the spare plants....

 

Just been for a Forage by the sea got a half bin bag of seaweed and half bin bag of nettles think my neighbour thinks I've lost the plot as I have laid it all out on the lawn ready for the mower then into an old water butt so in few wks hopefully have enough tea for the whole growing season

 

The plants are all flowering, will they still be ok to transplant? I'm heading to allotment tomorrow for a (hopefully) good few hours. Still got so much to plant out, onions, beans, more tatties to go in,
Sweetcorn, sweet peas, brassicas, everything has majorly back logged with moving house. I keep finding trays of plants I'd forgotten I'd sown!

 

Mine are flowering too, no probs planting them out

So I sorted out the 'forest' today.....


Dug all of this over, removed every weed....


Turned it into a tomato bed, the green canes have my most recently planted toms (cherry) beside them....

Still one more grow bag (3 tom plants) to go outside...but certainly looking better!!

Even found this on a plant today!

Roll on Tuesday so I can get the transfer completed

My greenhouse is empty this year, the last two remaining tomato plants are not growing so I will bin them. This is the first time I've had complete failure and I put it down to the weather and possibly the potting compost I use.

For many years I've used B&Q's Verve for all my seeds/plants not just toms, but in the last few years my young plants have stalled more than once in the growing season. I believe the nutritional/fertiliser content of Verve has been altered and doesn't sustain good growth anymore so I'll be trying something different next year.

 

Thanks John, but you'll understand it's not quite the same when we're used to growing our own.
