@HarryS I am sorry to hear you got caught out.

I am not bragging here, but all of my running around like Henny Penny seems to have paid off. My plants don't seem at all phased by anything and now we are solidly in the +40f nights.

@JWK , outdoors in planters , they all show signs of "burn" due to the cold

Peppers and toms been out last night, all seem ok so far :fingers crossed: My delphiniums from seed are not looking good at all though, very weak and the Winston churchill fuschia leaves have gone grey :old:

I kept mine in the greenhouse, no heat and they seem to be OK. I hope your ones recover.

I only planted the blooming things on Saturday morning ! Petunias , Begonias , Bidens all look 100% . The ones showing damage due to 2°c cold are New guineas and verbena . Now if they recover will they be OK or is it likely thye will be stunted and hold back ?

I'm not sure, gut feeling is they will take a while to recover.

I think your right Jon . I'll replace them tonight , and be more wary of cold warnings in the future . I presume it has caught quite a few out over the last few days.

Apparently it was 10c last night and it's 7C tonight where I am, the winds picking up already.. do I leave the peppers and toms out again or should I not risk it?

I wouldn't risk leaving toms and peppers outdoors at the moment, with wind chill your forecast temp can be 2 or 3 degrees lower or even less, you'll risk setting them back a couple of weeks at least.

I couldn't cope going back and forth to the window watching them, so I brought them in around 6ish :blue thumb:
Didn't realise it could set them back a couple of WEEKS!

Yes with tomatoes if they take on a purple colour in the leaves it's an indication they have been chilled. Peppers are even more tender than tomatoes so molly coddle those more :)

I've got my toms and peppers in the greenhouses and unheated. I did put out some of my ring of fire peppers but they are in pots which are hanging about 6 feet off the ground. And since they are not in blossom yet, I'm not worried about them.

Today I'm going to start transplanting some of my other seedlings into the gardens. It is supposed to be going down to 45f tonight but that is the lowest predicted from now until the fall

No purple here thank goodness! My pepper has got flowers forming so thought it was best to try and put it outside for more light. Really pleased with him so don't want to lose it, needs potting on mind got roots coming out of the bottom :)

Guess who's got purpled leaved Toms:wallbanging: This is despite being in an unheated greenhouse AND they had fleece on them:wallbanging: AGAIN. The Garden Pearl are fine but the Sungold are not. It's my own fault,I should have left them inside but they were getting really leggy and I decided to pot them on deep and leave them in the greenhouse instead of bringing them back inside. Funnily enough the peppers look absolutely fine. I'm a ghit because I managed to chill the Sungold last season and they sulked for ages. I promised myself I wouldn't make that mistake again and promptly have!
