Hi all, we have a long garden and next door's is the same, part way along we have trees and hedges for privacy that were already here before we moved in. For the remainder it's just the neighbours fence which isn't the tallest and he does have a tendency to peep over every now and then. What would be best for privacy? Ideally we'd like something that wouldn't interfere with them so there's no arguments about things overgrowing etc. We did look at trellis and climbers but was wondering if there are any other alternatives plant/tree wise? Thanks

ETA we've just looked at bamboo in planters, anyone tried this? Do they just grow upwards?

Yes they would do the trick, but to get a reasonable size they are expensive - how long is the boundary you need to cover?

It's around 15 metres, possibly more.

You could grow shrubs in large containers which would give better coverage and are also evergreen. The fastest growing one I've come across is Elaeagnus x ebbingei. As an added bonus you'll get small but gorgeously scented flowers in autumn.

    I also like Portuguese Laurel.

I've not bought any plants off either site so can't vouch for them.

Alternatively hide and next time he shoves his head over poke him in the eye.

Nicely shaped trellis on top of the fence would look good and you can grow things up your side of the fence and over the trellis. Either perennials or fast growing annuals that flower profusely. They die back in the winter but you may not be bothered by him looking over if it's winter time.
