Hi Sheal, a few birds look like it but there nesting habits don't add up, looking more into it this little fellow has adapted to pine trees, not 100% sure if it is the bird in question but if it is its quite a rare bird, check the similar ones in the link.

It's a Chipping Sparrow @Sheal and some nest in Pines, others in broad leaf forests.
A common bird and sometimes tame.

I found another Cuckoo today at Holton Heath but this is the normal one, unfortunately it was about 100 yards away in the old WW2 Cordite factory grounds which is mainly heath and woods and totally out of bounds. From these pics it may not even look like a Cuckoo!

A Tree Pipit (another summer visitor) was singing and typically flying up and parachuting down.

Like us @martin-f you too have Sparrows around, we now have 5 young being fed plus the noisy, argumentative young Starlings have arrived. It's a shame that some people don't see them at all in their gardens now.Wrens are always great to see as well as hear.:dbgrtmb:

I have Sparrows, Wrens, Starlings and Dunnocks resident all year. We are lucky to also have huge flocks of Starlings that come here to over winter but they stay in the fields and around the farms.

Past 3 years the adult Starlings seem to go elsewhere to have their babies and return later with them. Last year we counted apximately 130 adults and chicks.. There were 16 to begin with - word must have spread. The noise is incredible as is the amount of food they eat. :snorky:
