I am quitting this contest. I will still keep growing mine but it would be insanity to compete with beauties like yours!

    Good job :)[/QUOTE]
Ditto! I thought my "big" onions weren't too scabby (about the size of small Spring Onions atm, amazing how wrong you can be:yikes:) Flaming Nora @ash25 are you going for a world record? Your cossetted babies are about the size mine MIGHT get to if I'm lucky by August! Well done and hope nothing befalls them. @Zigs, was there a tiny bit of wishful thinking in your post?:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Sorry guys I didn't wanna ruin anyones motivation. I didn't realise this was a competition thread I only posted my progress so if anyone wanted any tips or my methods I could share.

And your right @Zigs , anything can happen, Botrytis, mites, pink root. You never know.

This attached pic is of my onions at this time last year. They measured 4" on 10/5/15 and they ended up weighing about 3 and a half pound I think. Just done a quick measure on this years and all 4 measuring between 7 and 8".

Will be pleased with a 7+ pounder but really hoping for as close to 10lb as I can get.

Like I said, it's not over till the fat lady has a tiny wafer thin mint

Broke me foot a few years back by picking up a girt onion in a slimey clay pot and it slipping out of me hands

Folk on GC have been very supportive with analgesic gels and walking sticks :old::biggrin:

@Webmaster even took a video of me hobbling around after the onion damage :phew:

I still walk with a limp, but its good to know that folk are growing great big bulbous things :spinning: Reminds me of my youth :phew:

Planted mine out today, they were root bound in their pots so I should have got them out 2 or 3 weeks ago:

@JWK is that bottle empty...... :)

Your onions lok lovely. Now I can see how they are getting roundish at the dirtline. Is that what I should be hoping for?

Mine arent doing too badly, have weathered them so they're ready for planting out. It rained last night so theyre now sitting in a tray of water

Is it better to plant them out wet or dry? May seem like a silly question but from losing my last batch, I know how tempremental they can be! :snork:

I've always puddled mine in Canny, don't let them dry out in the beds or they might bolt.

Bit worried about some of mine, showing a red tinge :th scifD36:

I planted my Kelsae out yesterday - they're a bit worse for wear, I think due to them being moved from pillar to post :frown: If they survive & grow at all - I'll be happy.

Small bottle of Baileys for size comparison. I have built a shelter for them too as our site is very open & extremely windy.
All I can do now is wait...
