It's on a closed landfill site in Lincolnshire.

Aye, they have a massive root out of all proportion to those straggly stems.

I did contemplate it but when I found out about the root size which will be growing in Oxford Blue clay it could become a real pain to get rid of. Plus it might start competing with the Willow coppice, and they're struggling enough with every weed known to the UK!

Best to trace the tuber and dig it out, if you can, @nFrost. It will just keep sprouting otherwise.

              Can anything compete with willow?
Isn't is a weed in itself, I'm trying to kill a few on my allotment.;)

It'd be pretty difficult to dig out the tuber noisette as it's growing in engineering clay, I would if I could! haha

It's a bit complicated but I take care of many hectares of willow in a short rotation coppice as part of landfill leachate treatment so I need to make them grow as well as possible. If they grew like weeds I'd be chuffed to bits! But alas they are struggling...

                What does it involve?
                In short of course:biggrin:

Haha, sorry. Leachate is the water that comes out of landfill sites, high in nitrogen, toxic chemicals and heavy metals. It needs to be treated before it can be released back into the environment. There's various ways to treat the leachate, each one more complex than the next!
